i'm interested
example: if
Maxell
DVD+RW
4.7gb
120 min
if i have movie that is longet than 120 min or even 2 files that are together 3 hourse, if i burn them on to that 120 min Maxell DVD, what would happen, DVD is 120 min and my files are 3 hours long.
???

Well you wouldnt be able to burn it... of the DVD caps out at 120min (with whatever bitrate) then, (preservering that bitrate) would mean you'd have to splice the files :)

Hi,

The minute ratings on DVDs are misleading and more or less refer to the amount of television programming that can be recorded to the disc.

When burning video/data the proper method to go by is the actual file sizes in MB/GB.

By applying compression to your movie you can fit it onto this disc.
Think of this in terms of bitrate (bits/sec) rather than time only and you will see what I mean. A 21/2 hour movie can be compressed to play normally on a two hour disc becuase the bitrate is reduced. A blank DVD-5 can hold roughly 4.3 GB of movie data so if the bitrate is reduced in your movie so that 4.3 GB is not exceeded, then it will fit.

Not a very technical explanation of how all this works exactly but you get the idea I hope.
