Bloomberg reported earlier today that sources are claiming to have early access to Microsoft's pricing of the Surface tablets.
The sources say the tablets will be Wi-Fi-only to begin with, in an effort to keep costs down.
Thanks to such a move, the lower-end Windows RT-based tablet will sell for $599, likely meaning the "Pro" version will cost $799 or so.

for this much money i rather just wait for the Nexus tablet or just spend it on a actual laptop probably with more ram, cd drive, more gb. i dont know, 799 is too expensive for my taste

I never said anything about locking into any amount of time. Your upset you were stupid enough to think they were selling a laptop that doesn't shut. It's called a tablet for a reason you fool.
@Smary-Jerry. I did not say anything about it being shut. My comment was about its functionality when open as a laptop replacement. The cover is attached by a magnet to the side so you can't place it at a particular angle to the screen and expect it to stay there , there are no hinges like a laptop. So therefore you need a table to place the tablet and the cover and type. Also the kickstand will keep it upright if placed on a hard surface, it will be harder to align it on a soft surface or on one's lap for instance. I becomes very difficult to use this as a laptop on the go. This is my opinion , if you don't like it then we can disagree but it doesn't make me a fool. Really it doesn't. Good day to you!
It boggles me how you are so clueless. Your bothered that it is exactly like an ipad but has more features? You must really hate your 3 ipads then.
You are not trying to understand. The iPad does not claim to be a laptop replacement like the windows pro does. The windows pro is designed to compete with laptops.
It's a tablet, that happens to have a case that than be used as a real keyboard, and nothing more has been claimed for it. Both the RT and Pro models, point of fact, have significantly better specs than current iPads, beyond screen resolution, so *shrug* whatever. The USB port(s) are a serious plus,as well.

I think it's smart for MS to come out with a price similar to Apple to show they are at least attempting to go toe to toe with ipad. If these "reports" are true on price MS better have their act together.
With the track record Microsoft has with portable devices, they should seriously consider losing money the first 6 months or so; selling it for around $399. Nobody wants to be that Guinea Pig...
