Report: U.S. Facebook usership falls again

article published on 19 July, 2012

According to a new report from research firm Capstone Investments, Facebook usership has fallen again, at least in the U.S. The same may be accurate for other major markets, as well, but growth in Asian nations has helped Facebook keep up strong overall growth numbers. In the U.S., Facebook's user base dropped 0.7 percent over the past three months, after a 1 percent drop in the three ... [ read the full article ]

Most of my Facebook friends and relatives just play stupid games all day and post the same old things day after day. They are all trigger happy with the like and share buttons.I kind of get tired of looking at the same things all the time.Maybe I should open up an account for my dog so I can have someone to talk to.

People find new social sites and move on, it happened with Myspace and I'm sure even the giant Facebook will not escape it. I really hate Facebook and most social sites, I am sure many people are realizing it as well. Is it really hard to text or call someone? Sure Facebook is a great way to share photo's but beyond that? Is it the games? They draw you in just long enough to make you want to pay to keep playing, unless you wait several hours or get your friends to help you. Why do you want total strangers knowing stuff about yourself, friends, and family members?

Right there with you guys. What's starting to really piss me off here recently is some sites are trying to rope you into linking login information to Facebook as a means advertising.

I.e., you use your Facebook login & that posts to your family/friends as free advertising for them. Some sites can't even be visited without this feature.

Now the damn thing is on my phone & constantly going off with no end in sight.

Kinda makes me yearn for the days of good old fashion arson.

I never use Facebook, only signed up for it many years ago for a very specific reason. But now almost every damn place wants me to sign in using Facebook or Twit-er, or some other crap social site that I have no use for, and I frikkin HATE it!
Like you said, many places you can't even leave a comment or reply without having to use that social sign-in option...do they think everyone in the world uses this crap or what?

I deactivated my FB account back in Jan and I don't miss it a bit. I look at the things FB has done since I've been gone and I think who the hell do they think they are to be so invasive? And what about changing your email account and not even telling you that they did so. Ugh.

It seems that way doesn't it. I've been a PC security expert since 97 & there have been times that I've had something important to add (at least I think so ;) ) to an article somewhere, and the only way you can comment without doing a full site registration is thru some social site, & I refuse to do either. It ticks me off to no end..

Another thing is that almost all of these social sites are security/privacy nightmares and magnets for professional hackers looking to steal passwords.

Precisely what I was talking about! Then FB starts farming out that info for $ to vendors all over the place. That's another reason why it'll be a while before they disappear despite the fact their popularity & immediate site camping has swayed.

And therein lies the problem Russ. Even such aggregated data is worth money, and they don't give a crap who it is that's buying it. You're also right that it's an issue that's not going to go away anytime soon but most likely to become more common.

Just like my kids or a case of painful rectal itch, both of which I wish would go away...
