How did you try your cousins? Is Gold on a different pc? Try updating your aspi layer http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/

Have you done all of your windows updates? Also what type of media are you using? Have you tried to re-install XCopy Xpress? Which aspi layer did you install?

i did all the updates and I istalled the force aspi thing that everyone recommended. What I dont' understand is why it worked then it didnt. I didnt do anything different. Is there any way to check the dvd/rw drive. At one point before I restored I couldnt burn a cd from Windows media player and sometime now, when I watch a dvd, it encounters a probrem and shuts it down. I have backed up about 100 dvd's and this problem started in 1 out of about 20 then it occured more often, now that's all it does. It will read fine and then when it starts writing, I here the Drive stop running and it finializes in about 10 seconds and reads error writing disc, doesnt say what the error is or anything.

as far as media, i am using dvd+r. The same dvd's worked fine until about halfway through a pack of 50. Now out of the last 50 I bouhgt I burned maybe 5 cd's cause when It starts to finalize it messes up the disc. I think, I dont try to use them again so I am assuming its messing them up. when You open a disc and try burning, doesnt it mess up the disc where you cant use it again.

Well to find out if it's the software or the drive you'll need to try other software. Try backing up using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter.

to check your file system: Open my computer, right click on your local disk. If your running XP, it should be NTFS.
The reason I'm asking is because DVD Decrypter will burn as well as rip. It will burn ISO's.
So using DVD Shrink w/ DVD Decrypter:
1) Open Shrink, open disc
2) Click "backup!"
3) Change target destination to "ISO Image File", and check the box to Launch DVD Decrypter
4) Click ok
If your able to successfully burn, then it's not your burner ... it's XCopy. Then we can figure out what's wrong with that :)

i cant get Nero to burn, it is shaded gray and wont turn where i can use it. I dont understand DVD Shrink. I open disk, it encodes everything when I go to back up it says there is an error. I dont understand dvd decypter at all, do you run that with shrink or is it built into shrink. Nothing seems to work. I know my cd/rw drive works, but does that mean the dvd part works or can I assume that even though they are built together they are two seperate burners. I know I am sounding stupid right about now but Im trying. thanks for all the help you've given me.

Shrink will only rip, compress and encode ... it will not burn by itself. So working with either Nero or Decrypter it will burn.

Do you mean dvd-rw? Or do you have two burners(a dvd burner and a cd-burner)? A dvd-rw will burn dvd's and cd's. A cd-rw will only burn cd's.
You have Nero ... Did you install InCD4?

Sorry to keep asking, but everytime I read it, I still can't tell. How many burners? And the cd part works in which drive?

Well do this .. in this order:
1) update your aspi layer to v1.8 if you haven't done so already: http://wombleintheuk.tripod.com/Final/ForceASPI/ForceASPI.htm 2) Uninstall your burner, reboot and let XP install it again
3) Then try using the combination of Shrink w/ Decrypter
So using DVD Shrink w/ DVD Decrypter:
1) Open Shrink, open disc
2) Click "backup!"
3) Change target destination to "ISO Image File", and check the box to Launch DVD Decrypter
4) Click ok
This will see if your burner is able to burn dvd's.

sorry it took so long to get back to you. when I tried the shrikn with dycryptor this is the message I got after a few seconds.
I/O Error!
Device: [1:0:0] HP DVD Writer 400c alt14 (E:)
ScsiStatus: 0x02

interpretation: write error
does this mean its my dvd writer and not the program. its fairly new, bought it in Feburary.
after I changed to ISO files on shrink, i clicked backup. it backed up my files. then I went to where they were saved and clicked on them. that opened the decrypter and then clicked the picture that showed it being burned on the dics. it started everything but when it said writing is when I got the error message above. Can you figure this out? I am lost. thanks

im not sure but when I go to properties and click on teh iso file it says 4,335,407,104 bytes. and time says 470:37:09. I know that is too big. when shrinking the dvd, how do you get it smaller. BOth movies I tried to copy are both large like this. Right now I am using liquid vision dvd+r but have used TDK, Memorex, imation and some others in the past.

To make a backup of movies this is the simplest way:
Download & install DVD Shrink 3.1.7
Put in the movie and open DVD Shrink, select the drive and let the program analyze the movie. Once this is done you should have the green bar on the program all green and no red, if you have red then you need to "shrink" the movie so it fits. Here is a link to a tutorial on how to do this:
http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/23_1.html Don't use DVD Decryptor or anything else... the tutorial is pretty good for all versions of DVD Shrink. Once you have the movie ready to burn on DVD then click on burn and in the options select to create an ISO and select the folder you want it to go. Once the program is done, burn the ISO with a program like Nero, Easy Cd Creator, Record Now ect... and it should work perfect. I have burned over 200 movies like this so I know it works.
