In fact, yes, I not only would expect it, I'd be damned surprised if they weren't already in development for Surface 2. Not only does R&D take a lot of time, it also shows commitment to the new hardware platform AND Windows 8 to the various 3rd-party software and hardware vendors out there.
It's common in the motorcycle industry that they aren't just working on the next model to come out but also the one after that.
I would think that's common in a lot of industries.
