Hmmmm... I'm new to DVD burning and I saw a 25 pack of Ritek 4.7 DVD-R 4x for $10. Is that super cheap? Also, is there any other brand of DVD-R media that is reliable besides Verbatim and Ritek? Thanks in Advance.

There are different grades of Ritek media. Make sure you are dealing with a well known company and are buying Grade A Ritek. Expect to pay about .80 to $1. each for the good stuff.

I got a bad batch of Ritek Ridata's from new egg.
Half of the 25 were coasters.

I've had great results from matrix dvd's from shop4tech.com. The usual result is 1 coaster out of 50. They are cheap too, about 70 cents a piece with the case. I can only speak for my lite-on 851s drive.

I think the answer to your question is no. You can't back up a dvd movie to your hard drive with just a cd burner. You will need a dvd rom drive and the right software.

I just got some "Genuine Ritek Ridata Branded G04 1X-4X DVD-R Blank Media" from http://meritline.com. I haven't had a chance to test them yet. I paid $0.52 each (on a spindle of 50). I'm hoping that these are 'the good ones'....

soletta. You need a DVD burner to use ANY DVD. A CD player will not recognize ANY DVD.

I never sent back the disc's.
Because I wasn't sure why the burning was failing every other time or so.
Now I just got some new printable ridata's and they work great.
Go figure?
