Report: iPhone 5 beats out Samsung Galaxy S III in speed tests

According to a new Mashable report, the iPhone 5's new A6 processor makes the new smartphone faster than Samsung's flagship Galaxy S III.
The report uses standard benchmarking tools such as GLBenchmark and Geekbench, among others.

Well... We are talking about 2 completely different operating systems here; which I am sure either side of the debate table would argue is better at their job than the other - so who could/would argue that the testing software is actually returning actual, functional, quantifiable test results?
In actuality we'd have to run some form of non biased basic software platform on both phones, 'then' run the test platform in order to get a "true" matrix. Otherwise we're just getting a mish-mash of he said, she said.
Theoretically Apple is running one app at a time while the Samsung is running 2 or more, thus pulling more cycles & limiting the results as well. Opinion yes, but plausible too.
Until the phones can be put in the previously mentioned parameters it's an unjust bit of propaganda written up favoring Apple & 'could' be misconstrewed as an advertising payoff toward Mashable.

This test was a bit wishy washy in my book. Not sure what to make of it. It seemed this guy was from the mac world and would not do a proper test.
Honestly i am still not convinced I like mt S3 and am sticking with it.
He also forgot to mentioned how locked down the iPhone still is with it still needing iTunes. When they make the file structure more visible and less dependent on their own applications I may give the Apple iPhone another run. At the moment to do what you really want to achieve with the iPhone you will have to use 3rd party Apps still on your computer.
My decision is pending...

see if you test the s3 and iphone5 from here in the uk you will find the s3 is better as it runs Exynos 4412 Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 and the iphone 5 has A6 Dual-core 1.2 GHz both with 1gb of ram.
Don't get me wrong the Iphone is a good phone and has coen a long way from when it first stared and im glad they changed the charging connector so they can make a thinner phone and if your a apple person then the iphone5 with the new Mountain Lion make it easy to communicat with phone to mac book or desktop.
Now looking at the samsung galaxy s3 and what makes it extra special from other android phone makers is that samsung make there own chips so you know the phones have the best at that time and have been tested before they even come to the phones.
The thing I like about android vs ios is I feel there is more apps and I love useing bluetooth an nfc. We all know the Iphone has nfc as well but the bluetooth part bugs me.
all in all mac desktop and laptop useres are better with the iphone and people like me are better with android.
At the end of the day we could sit here and say what phone is fater and this one has this and this oen has that. Its really up to witch one would you use the most what one feels right in your had. I have the Samsung galaxy nexus and to be honest I love it.
Advice go and get a demo when the note2 comes out in about a month and get a demo on the Iphone 5 not matter what phone you get if your happy dont let anyone tell you any different.

So, Apple's newest phone can beat a 3-month-old Android...let's see how the note smacks it around when the iPhone5 is only a month old...and it is just downhill from there as we see a flood of quad-core and intel phones released after that and before the iPhone6...but I really don't care if the new iPhone can play some game I don't want better, nor do I care that the Note II will play the same game better than the new iPhone. That's not what I want my phone to do. Show me a video of an iPhone5 with a screen that is bigger (or even the same size) as an Android from last summer. Better yet, show me a video of an iPhone made by a company that doesn't sue people for using rectangles with rounded corners.

LOl, the guy can't do a speedtest even though that app is on the play marketplace.
I've paid for geekbench and I got 1848 on my Galaxy S3 international, without app killing anything and that wasn't all 4 cores only 3 cores.
There are higher scores over 1900 from Galaxy S 3.
The 1648 is the highest Iphone 5 geekbench score I've seen yet still no where near what my own phone has done in that benchmark.

International Galaxy S3 has quad-core CPU and 1GB RAM, the US-and-other-weird-places version has dual-core and 2GB RAM.

This war will never end and with all the labels we have to separate ourselves as human beings, I find it really pathetic that ppl will go as far as hating other ppl just because of the type of phone they have in their pocket.
They really need to understand that a preference in a certain phone or company is suggestive. You cant argue with that. It doesnt matter at ALL if another phone is faster or smaller or larger screen. If someone prefers a Blackberry over an Android or Iphone, let them be!

I don't hate iPhone owners...I do hate Apple, and I don't like that people support them in spite of their actions, but the only Apple supporters I hate are their lawyers (who probably have BB phones). That said, I do think there is a lot of ignorance in the phone markets. I've met Apple users that bashed android because it is hard to use, who then used my phone without any issues when they had no AT&T service. I've also met BB users who bashed android because there is no email notification LED...and I think there are only a handful of Android phones that ever excluded this feature.
As for the theoretical 8-intel-core, 6" screen iPhone that comes with google maps and navigation and a nexus distro of Android pre-installed, I still wouldn't buy it...I would want to buy it, but I would not support Apple, just as I might want the PS4 but I won't support Sony. Thankfully, Apple has not put me in such a predicament...I actually don't want the new iPhone, if you gave me one for free it would be on eBay and the money made would go to a Note II.

A Friend and myself both Ran Geekbench 2 on the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3, we both killed all other running apps that the OS did not rely on. If anything is running the OS relies on then that has to be taken into account as the user is always subject to any performance degradation of OS dependant tasks. The result from GeekBench 2 was that the iPhone received a better score by some two hundred at around 1600 where as the Galaxy S3 was around 1400 (I cannot remember the exact numbers). I am not bias either way but these are the facts.

You're still within the confines of each of the respective phone's OSs. I'm saying take the phones out of their intended operating environments & place them both in a neutral basic operating standards that will "NOT" play favorites to the testing parameters to the testing software.
"THEN" we might get a non biased, quantifiable set of results that would lead to a little less squabbling amongst us. Otherwise, some of our other contributors to the forum didn't come to the same conclusion that you did.
I.e., who's to say you or the other contributors are 'as' scientifically correct as the next?
