Motorola Atrix 4G not getting ICS

article published on 30 September, 2012

Motorola has flip-flopped this week, confirming that the Atrix 4G will not be getting an official upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The company had earlier said the phone would eventually be getting the update, but it appears the Atrix 4G, the Photon 4G and the Electrify will all remain on the outdated Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It really wasn't enough that the 2.3.6 update killed wifi/bluetooth for a lot of users of this phone. And still not enough that Motorola would not own up to this mistake and charge users 109$ to get it fixed? Now they aren't even going to update the phone. And people wonder why Apple continues to sell millions with an "inferior" phone. A high end flagship of its time phone just abandoned turns people off from trying the more mature ICS/JB Android phones. Its a good thing Google bought Motorola, they got rid of most of the abomination that is Motoblur.

It's a mistake to believe that iPhones are "inferior" - they aren't. They're quite comparable, and often superior to, current-gen phones at their release. They ARE, however, drastically overpriced for what you actually get.

I could live with this but since, I think, 2.3.4 I can't connect to Enterprise wifi networks that I could before. Now, I apparently am forced to move to CyanogenMOD. Quite depressing since even CM is only Gingerbread itself for the Atrix 4G.

Doesnt expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected and therefore mean youre expecting the expected which was the unexpected until you expected it?
