Scientist: First quantum computers just 5-10 years away

According to the scientific journal Nature, Australian researchers claim to have moved closer than ever towards quantum computers.
The researchers say they were able to "create the first qubit based on a single atom in silicon."
This is considered a major milestone since only 300 qubits "would be required to store a number greater than the number of particles in the universe."

It's already here, you just can't control it properly, main reason why it's never came out.
In Australia some of the UNI's have Quantum chips working but once you are at certain frequencies the chips just fall apart, sure you get 5 to 10 ghz real easy simply because nothing is moving in the chips but that is also the problem.
As you have say an atom that'll suddenly exist to say it's a 1 but then it's also be gone as well then things screw up as the chips starts to do it's own thing and the rest just can't keep up with the chip.
That's what I got told around 2000.

Quantum computers of limited scale have been in existence for a while now. The headline should read, "Commercially-Available Quantum Computers"...

^This. And even though quantum computation obeys the same principles of Turing computability, the way the information is processed in certain regards is extraordinarily different. Not everything will be sped up, depends on the problem to be solved. But anything that can be done with simultaneity in mind (i.e. protein folding... or anything that can be solved with parallel computing) will be sped up in an exponential fashion. And 5-10 years sounds about right, considering that nanoscale architecture of silicon chips today is already reaching a physical limit. We're reaching the age of biomachines, that are able to do a seemingly limitless number of calculations in the ranges of seconds.

I'd love to see it, but I'm not holding out on buying new tech until I see the story that Intel has begun testing prototypes. There have been too many "almost here" technologies that never got past "almost here"...I remember a story from about 10-15 years ago that some university had a way to store many terabytes on a crystal the size of a pencil eraser...it was even working in the lab...but still, we are stuck with platter disks for large storage.

along with my hologram projecting ring so I can surf the web.. on the go ,,, maybe web vision glasses..and a playable air guitar playing in my head.

I think the point was they say it will take x amount of time and in reality it take much longer or we are still waiting for it happen. Something will never get done. Means we can wait forever.

you cant actually teleport.the closest to teleporting you will get is moving faster than the human eye can see (ninjas do it already) giving the illusion that they teleport.
or breaking down and recreating the person is another location which is faulty as explained here.link
