I just bought a copy (free after rebate). I am a complete newbie, hoping to make fair use backups of my kids' movie collection. What are the pro's thoughts of this software?

AR
Gateway Select Athlon 750; 120 and 20 gb Hdds; 256 Ram; Sony TRV740 D8; firewire; also own Nero 6.0 Ultra; Pinnacle Studio 8.

Thanks!

Still trying to GETIT to work...

Good thing it was free...

It kinda sounds like someone is tracking how you use it or what you copy with it. I'd be afraid John Law would knock on my door (shudder)

I got my copy of Icopy DVDs2 free with my DVD burner. I had it run with DVD43 for some time, and was absolutely satisfied with the simplicity it offered (just 2 clicks) and the results. Then I burnt a DVD, Icopy DVDs2 said it's fine, but it just wouldn't play. I then resorted to Nero. Yes, it takes some time to get used to, but the up side is you can monitor the whole burning process, and the fine tuning options can really help you set the burning job just to your liking.

By the way, to work with DVD43, you must insert the DVD first, make sure the face icon turn green, before starting the burning program (e.g. Icopy DVDs2). Also, I must confess that I did not experience the other problems that you guys have except that it failed me once.

These threads have been very helpful and I wished I found them before I plunked down $40 for ICopyDVDs2, which I still can't get to work. Shrink and Decrypter work fine, although I can only write at .7x. Can anyone offer suggestions on these problems.

IcopyDVDs2 (with DVD43)reads the DVD fine, but when I insert a blank disc (TDK DVD-R)the writer (Mad Dog dual layer external using NEC drive) doesn't recognize that a disc has been inserted. ICopyDVD2 support says it's a firmware problem but the drive works fine using Decrypter.

Using Decrypter, the drive only records at .7x. I thought it had to do with my USB 1.x so I got a PCI card with USB 2.0 ports. When I use the 2.0 ports, Decryper gives an error message and I end up with a coaster. Switching back to the 1.x port, the writer works fine. Other threads lead me to believe the external DVD writers are just typically slow.

I'm using the following: emachines T4170 P4 1.6gHz, external NEC dual layer DVD+/- 8x burner.

Thank you all.

I too received I Copy DVDs 2 with my computer. I use DVD43, the free version, and AnyDVD from Slysoft and have had no problems backing up movies. The AnyDVD seems to work better with the newer movies. I backed up my copy of Taking Lives also without problem.

Now for the problem, I'm trying to backup a disk with 2 episodes of a program on it, if I try to copy the entire disk I get Error Writing Disk. If I don't copy entire disk, I only get the first episode.

Any ideas?

I had originally a DVDburner and CDR/W drive on same 2ndary IDE buss.. CDR/W was "master" and DVDburner was
"slave"... There are jumper setting on the drives themselves that let you set who is the master and who is the slave. The DVDburner didnt like being the slave. I switched them.

I have DVD43 running but I keep getting an encrypted data error when ICopyDVDs2 reads about 8% of any disc. Any suggestions?

... I've been using ICOPYDVDs2 for some time now and have found it to be a pretty good program ... Initially I did have some problems getting it to work properly, but with some customer support help ... I've had a good success rate ... I've found that sometimes I need to begin playing the disc, then open ICOPYDVDs2, then close my playing program and click the copy icon on the program ... This seems to help when DVD43 is having problems with a tough disc ... Also, if you're getting an encryption error as soon as 8%, try cleaning the disc ... even if it looks clean this seems to help a lot of the time ... If you need help, call ICOPYDVDs2 tech-support staff at 708-349-1400, ext 5513, and they can walk you through the process to get you up and running ... an alternate number is 708-349-6409 ... I talked with Bill Stanley and he was very helpful and patient ...

... Overall, I give this program a 7/10 rating ... I wouldn't pay more that $19.95 for it though ... It does do a good job of compressing DVD9 to DVD5 discs but it's kinda picky ...

ICopyDVDs2 does not work! The box promises it "can make a backup copy of virtually any DVD movie including latest releases." That is a flat out lie! The software has not been able to copy any of the 12 movies I've attempted to back-up (including "Gladiator", "Monsters, Inc.", "American Graffiti", "Casablanca", and "Fargo".) Their tech support insists that it is an issue between me and the makers of DVD43FREE, a program they recommend to break encrytion codes. I've properly installed ICopyDVDs2 and DVD43FREE yet I continue to get encryption errors. Insted of helping me figure out what is going wrong, their tech support simply told me, "I know our software works." Well, it doesn't. Avoid this program at all costs.

I downloaded the trial of Icopydvds2, it looks VERY similar to dvdxcopy! The interface is different, but there are distinct similarities in the way it operates! It worked OK for me. I already have Nero 6.6, Alcohol 120%, DvdX platinum (ripper & RF), DVD Shrink. My fave is Platinum. Don't know if I will buy Icopydvds2. Don't really need it!

The only problem I have had with ICopyDVDs2 is with disks with more than one episode of a program.

Serafim, try it with Anydvd, the actual free copy of DVD43 doesn't work on a lot of the dvd's but so far (knock wood) Anydvd has worked really well and I have backed up in excess of 40 movies.

I have already shared my experience regarding ICopyDVDs2. Now I mainly use Nero with DVD43. As for DVD43 (the free version), I have had no problem so far. Here's a trick: If DVD43 doesn't work the first time, try toggle it off and on. If you see a mad face, then a green one, BINGO!

deb432002,
Thanks! AnyDVD is the solution I was looking for. I am able to backup my DVDs now, although I'll have to pay another $30 when the free trial for AnyDVD runs out. I'm just glad it works. Thanks again

I have AnyDvd & would recommend it highly, I use it in conjunction with DVD43 (free version from DVD43.com/," class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.DVD43.com/, not the DVDIdle.com version which you have to pay for!) I have not had a disc I cannot back up yet. (Sounds like something Murray Walker would say, then inevitably curse!)
