HTC has another bad quarter

article published on 8 October, 2012

HTC has reported another horrible quarter, as the company struggles to stay relevant in the smartphone market that is quickly becoming a two-horse race. The company, which is the fifth-largest smartphone maker in the world, reported that Q3 profit fell 79 percent year-over-year, missing even their own downgraded forecasts. Net profit came in at $133 million, down from $640 million ... [ read the full article ]

HTC will took to turn its fortunes around with the new Windows Phone 8-based HTC 8X and Android-based One X+.

Am I seeing that correctly? Don't call me a grammar nazi because this isn't about grammar. This is about syntax. I guess maybe I'm a syntax commie? A Syntax Socialist, if you will. lol :-P

If that rumored Nexus by HTC is true, I think they'll come back...

I loved my HTCs :(

Well HTC keeps shooting themselves in the foot by making flagship devices carrier exclusives. Put the HTC One X on all 4 carriers and things might have been different. They don't have an iPhone like buzz with their products, so carrier exclusivity is not going to work for them.

Too bad they still haven't learned since the One X+ is AT&T exclusive. They should take a note from Samsung. Galaxy S3 on all 4 carriers plus a few regional carriers and the Note 2 about to launch on all carriers as well.

Agreed as well, although they should also be taking some other ques from Samsung...or rather, they should try to beat them at their own game.

Samsung made a 5" smartphone and it did great, so they decided to try a 5.5" phone. What does HTC do? Do they go big guns with a 6" phone? Do they make a 5.5" phone to go head to head? No, they make a 5" phone to compete with the old model...brilliant!

I have to agree. HTC has some great phones but they keep making small mistakes. Instead of making the same phone for 3 diff carriers, naming it diff with slight modifications they should make one phone like Samsung and put it on all carriers. Stop making an enternal battery unless u are going to take Motorola's approach and go big like the Maxx lineup of phones.
Can we say expandable memory please? I also wish someone would make a phone that was completely scratch and scuff resistant. HTC sense is one of the nicer user interfaces. It just needs a bit of tweaking. When we think of HTC why do most people think poor battery life? Fix it please! I know the HTC One X is better than a lot of previous models on battery but still all these phones are selling us short.

Yeah, I have an original HTC EVO. One of the first "superphones", and it has been great.
But, since then I've not seen one compelling thing from HTC.
They seem to always be a day late and a dollar short.
The One-X was just a bit less than the SIII.

They need to leapfrog. Do something that is BETTER.
I agree with the battery and SD slot and HDMI!

Oh, Im sorry... Did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours?

Yeah. Hdmi too. Wireless charging and other new things. You shouldnot have to plug your phone into a wall. Maybe plug in the mat and the sit your phone on top of the mat at your desk. Where are the laser keyboards? Wireless video streaming from your phone to a WiFi enabled TV or a WiFi ready blue ray player. How about the phone coming with a with a controller for gaming that cradles the phone itself. Are there any phones that have anti shake reduction built in with the video recorder or any app out that allows for this? HTC needs to step up.
