Well I'm new too but I used roxio to write movie from HD. I used dvdecrypter with shrink for first copy.Right now I use Ritek-R03-01 disc. After movie is on HD then I was able to write with roxio.

roxio is about the last program you want to use to make dvd player compatible dvds. Download dvd decyrpter, and have shrink burn with that (choose iso image as target and select burn with dvd decrypter).

I was able to write one using Roxio, but in DVD Builder, not data; I think the structure may be fundamentally different. In DVD-Shrink, write it out ("backup") as an ISO image, then do a "Burn Image" in Roxio DVD-Builder (under the File Menu). This worked for me.

Roxio is at the bottom of the list for burners to use. Like sly_61019 says, use Shrink to rip an ISO file, and use Decrypter to burn.

The disadvantage of this approach is that if you want to watch the ISO movie from your hard drive, you will need to mount the files as a virtual drive. I think something like Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools will allow you to do this.

Most important, is your choice of DVD media. Poor media will not work for DVD backups, and this could also be your problem. There is a lot of info here at AD about media. If you don't want problems, best use Ritek/Ridata brand. You can only buy this online. If you are USA, www.meritline.com probably has the best prices...with free shipping.

There are also certain combinations of burners and standalone DVD players that don't work well together. There aren't very many, but you should be able to do a google and find out if you fall into that category. Also, try your backup in another player and see what happens.
