In December, a UN agency meeting will take place in Dubai, and the control of the Internet will be on the agenda. While I am a freedom loving American here I don't believe we or anyone else should have total control of the internet. I also believe we have no place to dictate what other countries should do when relegating their own people. Our society believes we have the most freedom and the most open honest government ever... sure.
However, if this were to be a stepping block to a global unified civilization I would be all for it. But there are a lot of stingy dogs out there, and they will do anything including torching their own lands to keep that bone.

I say let Comcast control the internet. Look at the excellent job they've been doing so far. They would only have our best interests in mind and they would never gouge us or throttle our speed. Oh, look it's a unicorn!

I think the answer is for "The Internet" to be declared a sovereign nation, and as such would consider any other nation or group of nations attempting to "gain control" of it as an act of war.
You can have our Internet when you pry it from our cold dead hands!

Interesting idea... Since citizenship is generally determined by place of birth, how would one become a citizen of this country?

You kinda missed the point actually, nice try. The point was that the internet is a virtual structure that has no physical area in which to do anything. The most basic of which would be to become a citizen. So I ask the question again... how does one become a citizen of a non existent virtual country?

Gee Zoo... don't make it harder than it is...
To become a Citizen of the Internet, LOG INTO THE INTERNET.
All thinking human beings are qualified and NO ONE is looking for CONTROL.
There is no Pro-American agenda here... it's a rhetorical concept, not a movement to kick all non Americans off the web.
If you are concerned I hereby grant you provisional citizenship on the internet, with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of a full net-citizen. Welcome to the future!
