Have had such bad luck lately with Some Datawrite Yellows and Reds I'm beginning to tear my hair out with all this bad press on DVD-R media!

Wrote plenty of perfect DVD-Rs on same brand last month, now I can't get any to work, films or games. Figured it's probably cheaper to try some new DVDs rather than buy a burner.

Bigpockets Branded 4x DVD-R (Grade A purple Dye) look good value at £10.99 for 50. Anyone tried these out ???

cheers,

Hi, I have had about 100 of those dvd-rs in the past, no problems whatsoever. And that was using an NEC 1300a <<<<< fussy with media.

Cheers

Bigpockets DVD-Rs are branded for the company by e-net and are essentially the same discs as Datawrite Reds (Manufacturer Infosmart/AN31).

If you had trouble with the Reds, don't buy these.

Ahh, the Blue budget ones....can't comment on those, I have had the purple ones and like I said, no problems.
If Jase is right and these are the same as the red datawrites then it may be a bad idea.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments.

Anybody have a clue what is going on with my problem? Had the Pioneer installed on a very old 700mhz system running Windows 98. Burnt films and games okay on the Yellow and Red Datawrites. Have now upgraded to Athlon Xp2600 with WinXP. Now when I try to burn discs from the same caketub as previous none of the games boot. Neither do any films work. Tried writing some data to one, that was fine (although it did verify with an error)

Is it the new OS and Processor? Checked the firmware on the Pioneer and its 1.41

Luckily I've got a G4 Mac so I put the burner in there. Managed to burn a VCD and a DVD with some holiday footage. Again, on the same media. Both worked fine on the standalone DVD player. Just seems to be the PC that doesn't like the discs?? Wierd.

If that's the case it sounds like a software/driver issue. What burning s/w are you using? And did you install the manufacturer's IDE drivers (not generally a good idea for DVD burning if you have a non-Intel chipset).

Okay thanks for the info...
There has been further developments. I had some Xbox Iso's that I couldn't get to boot up for love na money. Anyhow, tried on the Mac - extracted the iso, burnt the folder (not the iso) using Toast, UDF format and they now work a treat using the same media that wouldn't work on the PC.

Very odd stuff. Will get round to trying the writer back on the PC again over the weekend to see if I'm going nuts or not. Will keep you posted, if anyone's still bothered.

The user is able to use these discs with this writer on two other PCs, it is (apparently) this one Athlon-based PC which is giving trouble.

If that is the case, this excludes media or drive as the source of the problem. The only other cause in that case is drivers.

The number one cause of random strange errors in burning CDs or DVDs is IDE driver incompatibilities, and it is a generally recognised fact that VIA drivers give the most trouble and Intel among the least (VIA and Intel referring to IDE, and hence motherboard hardware and drivers in this case).

The other possibility is bugs in the software used.
