Did anyone else see Star Wars: Episode 7 in the headline and think "That's got to be a joke"? Not sure how I feel about all this. Maybe at least now George will stop his incessant tinkering with the first two trilogies...

Why a joke? It was always on the cards. There are nine of them afterall, only six have been made to major motion picture.

Lucas didn't want to make the last three because they were uneventful or something?

Hmm, first I'd heard of it. Guess that makes me feel marginally better. :-P
Still hope George stops messing with the old ones.

Let's just hope we get a decent Star Wars film out of this. The Avengers, at the very least, is amazing. Maybe Hollywood will actually get the point now: Good movies sell.

Will be very interested in this as well. The story line has to be good. I know I watch with my kid the anime of the clone wars. That is a decently written story.

I'm actually pretty happy to hear this; not much surprised, though: Lucas and Disney have been pretty tight for the last few decades (Star Tours, Indianna Jones ride, ETC).
As far as I'm concerned, the only good things to come from Star Wars post-Episode VI have been without Lucas' direct involvement, and the bad having all too much to do with him (I-III).
I can only pray VII uses some of the universe fans have been building for the past three decades.

I, too, would pay $4 billion to take the Star Wars franchise out of the hands of Lucas.

Dela, i think it was because of the time taken to do the 6 parts especially the time delay part 6 & part 1, he didn't think he'll live long enough to do parts 7-9.

No, because each movie consumed three or four years of his life. Even when he wasn't directing he was occupied full-time in story boards, planning sets, overseeing alien design, etc.
He's 68 now. When you get to be that age, you start thinking very seriously on how you want to spend your remaining time. Why do more Star Wars movies when he's overseen six before and could better spend the time on something new?
