Pirate Bay founder sees new charges

article published on 11 November, 2012

Gottfrid Svartholm, one of the founders of infamous torrent site The Pirate Bay, has been in prison in Sweden for over a month, after hiding out in Cambodia to avoid his trial. Svartholm is allegedly in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day, and every two weeks there is a court hearing to discuss his imprisonment and whether he should be released before trial. Convicted murders get better treatment here in the U.S. than this guy gets. You'd think he was the most dangerous human being on the planet they way they treat him. What BS!

Yeah......I agree that they are somewhat mishandling this guy. Solitary for 23 hours is nonsense. However, if he is hacking like crazy and causing business loss then he needs an ass whoopin!

Varg Vikernes, in the same prison system (we consider it Scandinavia, though Norway and Sweden are separate countries), got a prison sentence for the murder of Euronymous, and his life sentence (21 years is a life sentence in Norway. Obviously the Norwegian legal system figures someone who spends 21 years behind bars won't be so eager to commit murder again) was spent in a pretty cushy prion facility. He even had access to musical instruments and recording equipment! Might I also mention he was charged with arson of at least 2 churches in Norway.

I've heard that about the scandinavian prisons/legal system. Maybe its not such a bad deal for Gottfrid after all other than the loss of freedom to do the things you want on the outside.
