I know that I'm running this into the ground, but I just did a DVD5 rip with DVD Decrypter and with DVD Shrink. The DVD was "Ruthless People". It was a small DVD, only 3349MB. DVD Decrypter peaked out at 19,911 KB/S (14.4X) and averaged 13,797 KB/S (10.0X). Elapsed time was 4:09 Minutes. Ran it through DVD Shrink and the end speed was 13,352 KB/S and the time was 4:18 minutes. That speed may be the average instead of the peak. Didn't burn it, but it probably would have taken about 8 minutes at 6X. I'm not trying to brag. I don't think I have any sort of super computer or anything. It's probably the hacked firmware in my DVD-ROM. It wasn't that fast before.

Well congratulations for having a fast PC. We conceded the fact a long time ago. Different processors, different drives, different files, different speeds. You're doing good with a good system, keep up the good work and have a nice evening. And yes, we have run it to ground.

@Flip
Congratulations.

Maybe I will. Actually this is only about a 3.4 GB movie, so 8 minutes would be about right at 6X. A full disc takes me a little over 10 minutes at 6X and a little over 8 at 8X. You know, I hear about never doing anything while a DVD is burning. I have found the case to be never to do anything while decrypting is going on. During decrypting my CPU usage is right around 100%. I don't think I could do much anyway. During burning the CPU usage is usually less than 10%. I have surfed the web during burning with no ill effects. I usually don't, however. I guess I'm really getting off topic now.

Time for a riot, somebody went off subject. Just joking, I think this has become the open forum.

On a serious note. I've forgotten to turn off scheduled maintenance and the A/V come on for a scan during the burn. I got a problem with the video from that. The rip was clean so I just burned again and it came out good the 2nd time. So we can get away with a lot, but some things come back and bite us.

Good morning all, and Brobear thanks for the info on Shrink. Since I'd never used it in re-author mode, I had no idea it could find overall size of the DVD, let me preview files, etc. Very useful info which I will try with my next DVD. I also had gotten lazy about turning off my anti-virus every time I burn so thanks too for the wake-up call on that.

And one last thing, I will try to make ALL my posts clearer in the future!!!!

Karen H.--Dell Optiplex GX240, P4 1.50ghz, 256mb RAM (yeah, I need more), Windows XP Pro w/SP1, 80gb c: drive (replaced the 20gb c: that crashed), 126gb i: drive, 124gb j: drive, 500gb external hard drive partitioned into k: and l: drives, Sony DDU1621/C1 DVD-ROM to rip/encode, Sony DRX-530UL to burn, new Sony DRX-840U to burn DL discs ... need a new computer to go with it!!

Glad I could be of help with the Shrink. The program has a lot of possibilities. I believe you'll like the new version, 3.2, even better when it comes out soon. It would be a good idea to go over the guides, here at AD, at Doom9.org and DVDShrink.info. I actually made a paper copy so I could have it handy as needed.

It was nice of you to offer assistance. Hope you keep the generous attitude. We should all learn from experience, including myself.
