EA chief says no link between video games and violent behavior

article published on 2 February, 2013

No science-based evidence linking video games to violence, EA CEO says. John Riccitiello, EA chief executive officer, said that EA was horrified at the events at the Sandy Hook school and previous shooting incidents in the United States, but felt compelled to note that there has been no link found between this type of extreme violent behaviour and video games. Video games were predictably ... [ read the full article ]

If video games are the cause and source of violent behavior, then we should ban music, movies, TV, and pictures. You can't blame the entertainment industry for "corrupting" the mind of young teens and adults to commit heinous actions. No one wakes up in the morning and says "I'm going to steal a car, shoot up the place, get chased by the cops, go to Paint 'n' Spray and avoid the cops and complete the mission."

If you shoot up an elementary school, you're just a sick F**K.

I state that games can cause problems however u can not plainly blame games for mentally retarted people.

I only say if you are selling games to kids bellow the mature the shop keepers have to make sure that they do age checks and also parents have to really put their parental guidance in place and really say no and not be pressured in getting a piece of material whether it be a game or movie etc parents learn to say No

United States senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn) even asserted that video games are a bigger problem than guns themselves, because they "affect people."
Um, duh? EATING and BREATHING "affects people", fer chrissakes!

I already hated Lamar Alexander, so this kind of drivel does not surprise me in the slightest.

Firstly, I am a gun owner. I am not opposed to gaming, just bull-oney. The US military uses 'video" shoot 'em up games to train the troops to shoot at anything that moves. The object of winning equals kill and then kill equals winning, not ending another life.

It all depends on the game and the user. Remember when the tobacco industry used to commit perjury regularly before the Congress with the same line ? It all depends on how the data is collected and assembled. There will always be some dummy and a greedy lawyer ready to insert outboard motor in septic tank.
