When I try to back-up my PC GAMES using A120% or BlindWrite and even CloneCD it takes a really long time. for instance, it (the pc game) was writing the image for 45min and it was only 1% done with A120% so I gave up, it also does this with BW anc CloneCD.
I have a pioneer 107d which is a 1 sheep burner and a IDE DVD-ROM
OH the game Im trying to back up is "BATTLEFIELD 1942"
THANKS TO ALL THAT RESPONDS!

I read this on BlindWrite:
Q : The extraction is SOOOO slow !
A : Some CDs contains bad sectors ( in purpose or not ) and the hardware used may do a big differences. There is no rules, but most of times the slow read will occurs on the first beginning part of the media, once this 5% percent of media extracted, the speed should be back to normal .. so patience, or try with different cd / dvd readers or writers to find one who manages the errors with a good speed.
Hope this help's Good luck!!

This isnt exactly the thread i wanted to post this in but its recent and goes with the topic so here it goes.
Ok so I was wondering why i couldnt seem to backup any of the games I have with the Safedisc 2 protection on them so I read some posts and found out that really what I need is a 2-sheep burner. I saw a post with a list of burners that are 2-sheep but when i went to www.newegg.com to see if I could buy one of these I couldnt find any burners on that list. Could someone please tell me where I can buy a 2-sheep burner and which one it is? Thanks

I have 512k of ram and 120gig of hard drive, but that shouldn't cause it to be slow, I can copy a dvd movie and audio cd's with out a problem and speed process is really fast, but not with pc games.

OK I copied BF1942 in 2hrs 10min and 36sec. to AL120% image making wizard, it was a 750mb disc WOW! but I havn't burned yet, I also burned another game that was 330mb and that took 45min to burn to AL120% image making wizard (also havnt burnd that yet either) but they play on my virtual drive very well.
Will burn at a later time.
P.S. as the girls say, SIZE MATTERS ;)

It sounds like Battlefield 1942 is Safedisc 2/3. :p Anyways, if you got a DVD-ROM use that with Alcohol, it took me about 10 minutes to backup my Safedisc 2/3 version of Painkiller. :p

My DVD-ROM and writer is a HP DVD Writer 400c. It seems like DVD-ROMs usually read faster and more accurately than CD-ROMs. :P The Painkiller play disc is around 650MB.

legacy784 most lite on CD burners will do most (not all but most copy protection out there) I personally like to make back ups of all the PC games I purchase because of some bad experiences I had lately.

If the game is Safedisc 2/3 it will always take a long time to copy, and in some drives the original disk won't even play. Search for "Painkiller Copy Protection" and you will find some horror stories. :P

For SafeDisc protected games it may help to speed things up by enabling "fast error skip" with Alcohol 120% :)
I just did Painkiller using both my Plextor Premium and PX-708A with BlindWrite 5 (my preferred program).

I think I have "fast error skip" enabled. I will have to check, I just dont want to wait another 2hrs. But if it must be done in the name of science then it must be done.
I will check back in and see if it was any faster.

I just read back through the thread and need to clarify a couple things.
The whole peocess of backing up a PC game takes well over two hours no matter which program you use, correct?
But you can back up DVD movies in the normal amount of time (30-45 minutes for the rip/compress and 15 minutes to burn)?
With the PC games, is there a time difference between using the ROM or burner when ripping?
Just to cover basics, is DMA enabled for both the drive? I imagine it is if backing up DVDs goes fine but you never know.
Any packet writing apps such as InCD, DLA or Drag To Disc installed? Again, it's a long shot since the DVD process goes fine.
Are you using the default settings in A120/BW5/Clone when backing up your games?
What is the specific make/model of your ROM? The main page for the Copy Wizard in A120 should list it.
If you plan on regularly backing up PC games I'd highly suggest adding a good 2-sheep burner to your arsenal for the simple fact that it is becoming near impossible to dupe the newer protections with a 1-sheep burner anymore. The Lite-On 52327S and the Asus 5232AS are both very competent 2-sheep burners and can be had for around $30 apiece. If you want the best out there the Plextor Premium ($80 but so worth it) is arguably the best drive out there for backing up PC games - it has a special write method that does a sublime job on SecuRom backups and this write method is supported in BW5 (using BW5 Tweaker).
Here's a link to BW5 Tweaker and A-Ray Scanner (the best scanner out there now):

yes it took 2hrs with AL120% for 750mb BF1942 but with the other programs I didn't let it finish since BlindWrite was at 1.5% around an hour.
I can back up movies with ease in reasonable time frame, 30-45 min, whole process.
Ive noticed the pioneer was faster than my dvd-rom when being ripped so I think I'll stick with that.
The bases are loaded with DMA enabled (can't say that with the Diamonbacks)
Quote: Any packet writing apps such as InCD, DLA or Drag To Disc installed
Nope! should I have somthing like this?
Quote: Are you using the default settings in A120/BW5/Clone when backing up your games?
yes I am using the default setting
1.Skip reading errors. checked
2.Fast skipp error blocks. checked
rest are unchecked with image making wizard AL120%
BW I have touched nothing. BW tweaker I will check out
As for my dvd-rom it say's IDE DVD-ROM 16x(2.0)
Like I said before "More time than money"

If you are using Alcohol 120% use the Safedisc 2/3 profile. After about 6% you won't get anymore bad sector errors and all will be good. :P
