AT&T has announced the availability and pricing of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4. Customers will be able to pre-order the phone beginning on April 16th for $250 with new 2-year contract. The carrier says it will be the first in the U.S. with the flagship although Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile will offer it, as well. The phone supposedly costs $244 to build, but its being offered subsidized on a 2 year agreement for $250?

Key word: "Subsidized". The carrier picks up the remainder of the bill. While carriers DO pay less per unit (since they buy in the hundred-thousands or millions), you can be quite sure that they pay significantly more than $250 to Samsung; for example, around $350-450 out of the roughly $550 retail price I'm guessing for the S4 ^^' .

But that's all gravy; now they have you on the contract teat.
