Microsoft tops U.S. console sales chart for 27th straight month

article published on 18 April, 2013

Microsoft was the first to report their U.S. console sales figures for March, claiming the top spot in the nation for the 27th straight month. The company sold 261,000 units in the U.S., besting the PS3 and the practically dead Nintendo Wii. March NPD's: 261k Xbox's sold in the US. Humph.

The new consoles seem a bit premature (except for the WiiU).

For instance, I'm happily playing the HD version of Shadow of the Colossus on my PS3... what motive is there for me to upgrade?

I just think it's gonna be a couple of years before the new consoles take off... if ever. Developers may not be too keen producing games for what might be perceived as a limited market. When production costs come down and they get cheaper to buy... I dunno.

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

Precisely!!!!!

I've been sayin' the same thing........"what's the point of a PS4 or NextBox...........the games aren't any better on those than they are on current ones which are HD.

It's not like game devs are begging to "make your hardware better so we can make better looking games"....just my thoughts...........

You may not be happy about the timing but this is all part of the cycle and I would bet history repeats itself. I am just gonna try to wait for the bugs to get worked out and possibly a price drop in its 3rd quarter. Fingers crossed.

If google shuts down how will we google what happened to google?

Dunno if I'm unhappy about it :)

I'm puzzled about it. I'm certainly not qualified to see into the minds of the decision makers. I'm just wondering how it will all pan out. Without backwards compatibility I'm thinking they will keep making the old consoles for a good while yet (see the title of this article) as people will have to replace broken/worn down ones.

I guess the new consoles will happily play the new triple-A titles in FullHD (1080p)... if they get made. Look how the WiiU is struggling... but maybe that's not relevant, it has controller issues (and devs can't be bothered working around them, not enough market sales I assume).

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

Microsoft did well with Kinect and many parents, myselft included, bought a xbox for my kid to challenge herself in sport games when the weather was not so nice. It is a decent interface. I, however, still like the ps3 controller and not having to paya subscription to play online.

I keep consoles that I play on. I still have a coleco vision, and an atari 5200, with the 2600 adapter to play the old old games. I'll wait until the new ones work out the bugs and see what all the bells and whistes are about.
