Earlier today, Microsoft sent out invites for the unveiling of their highly anticipated Xbox successor.
The Redmond giant will reveal the console on May 21st at 1PM EST, and the unveiling will take place at the company's campus in Washington.
Xbox Live boss Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb wrote this of the upcoming console:

The fact is some did not see Blu-ray as the best solution for HD film but like it or not it won out in the end, the fact is sometimes the best tech does not win out, it happens.
But we are where we are.
...and it is also true that Blu-ray has fallen far short of the original expectations.
It is quite likely to be the last optical physical storage but it has been rapidly over-taken by improving net infrastructure which offers the mass-market 'good enough' content.
Once again in this instance it is highly likely that the better tech-spec option will not win in the long term.
'The next DVD' it is not.

Are you making the common assumption that Sony wholly own BluRay? Because they are only one of many big companies that share ownership.
