Nintendo updates Wii U firmware to improve performance

Nintendo has updated the firmware for the Wii U console, in an effort to improve performance and lag times.
Most critics of the system have blamed extremely long load times for even basic functions. The update should improve this lag.

Agreed.
That's gonna happen with all the new consoles imo, including the OUYA.

You have nothing to base this on other than hope. OUYA is launching with out-dated technology, while MS just shot themselves in the foot with this Always-On crap (whether or not its for DRM doesn't change the fact that it alienates a lot of their consumer base).
Sony on the other hand, and I don't say this lightly especially after their PS3 fuck-ups is at least trying to step it up in the right direction, but Sony also is a company that forces updates to their firmware on grounds to tackle piracy while lying to consumers what the update is really for. On the other hand they have improved their PSN service dramatically since the 2011 hack, and they are attempting to make PSIV developer friendly for everyone, not just major publishers.
Either or, only time will tell who will support in the right direction and I believe Nintendo did right by consumers by this update. However, as nice as this update is, it still doesn't change the fact that their current hit titles are damn near launch titles, and are stale in the minds of consumers. Correct that mistake Nintendo and showcase a strong library come E3 or perish to your competitors.

No hater, the first thing it's gonna do when you connect is update. And they have explicitly stated that there will be more.

If you read developer reviews on OUYA you would have read how it's flawed, doesn't even seem to have it's own identity (meaning it doesn't even know how it wants to compete) and so far plays out like a mobile device that connects to your TV, which you can do to majority of mobile devices without the need of OUYA. Hence they are out of their league. This has nothing to do with competing against MS, SONY and Nintendo, and I never said they were competing with them. Learn to read before you comment.
AS for being a hater, hardly: I own every console to date, and likely will end up owning the Nextbox eventually when price comes down, so I can't really be a hater since that also means I'll end up owning the OUYA too, I just not expecting anything of it, and so far the development community isn't expecting much either. Again time will tell what place it makes for itself, it definitely isn't to compete against the big 3 but again, if it's not, than what is it for? I mean at least Leapfrog made games centered around pre-school kids so that made sense.
But OUYA is trying to make mobile games play at home, which can already be done by connecting your mobile device to the big screen... New exclusive titles are very scarce for OUYA, and the ones that do exist so far evidently suck, again do some research and google OUYA reviews. Youtube even, there are vids. So before calling someone a hater, realize that it may not be hate, but logical thinking behind a premise for an argument.

I call it as I see it. And it is fuelled by your uninformed yet fatuously patronising statement regarding my "hope" for a firmware update! Something I note hasn't been mentioned again in your above reply!

Of course I've read them! I'm thoroughly disgusted that irresponsible click-bait "reviews" are coming out complete with ratings for a device running on beta software that really aught to be called previews by rights.
The ONLY reason these guys are able to do their hatchet jobs is because they've received early KS backer models. No models have been sent for review officially. I personally NEVER expected to get a anything but a rough beta version. And what console nowadays is not expected to get firmware updates on a regular basis?
The vast majority of consoles have underwhelmed on release. The PS2 sucked initially, even released in Australia months after the US. If it wasn't for SSX... The same applies to the PS3, unable to even produce HD gaming initially. The xbox had Halo only because it was essentially a PC playing a game which had been developed for the PC years in advance.
I've got steam coming out of my ears over this. I'll quite happily admit I was wrong but I'll give it a year or so before I'll condemn it.... that's logical to me!
Maybe YOU aught to pull your head in here Mysttic. Especially concerning your unrealistic expectations for a $99 open-source console. I really couldn't care how many consoles you own OR how many tablets... OR about your premature negativity.
Have you considered that the OUYA scene is simply not really the sort of thing for someone like you?
PS: Your arguments I've handled on other places on AD, however... I myself don't own ANY expensive mobile devices OR tablets... but even I can see the primary interface for the cheap OUYA is not a touchscreen. As to the exclusive indie titles ... FFS just give it some time Mr Logical it hasn't even been released yet!!! LOL
