Xbox 360 to pass Wii in US by year's end

article published on 28 June, 2013

While the Nintendo Wii console once led Microsoft's Xbox 360 console by over nine million in lifetime sales in the U.S, it is likely to lose its American crown this year. When the Nintendo Wii first launched in 2006, the Xbox 360 had been on the market for a year in the United States. At that point, there were three million Xbox 360s in the home of gamers. However, the cheaper Wii console ... [ read the full article ]

In reality probably 90 percent of the Wiis sold still work. While Microsoft so called impressive sales numbers are people buying a second or third Xbox so they can use software they already own. I do not know anybody that has not bought at least two Xbox 360's.

I had to buy two 360s because Microsoft wouldn't honor the warranty of the first (some nonsense about it not covering heat damage, which was nice because the console constantly overheated in a well-ventilated area) and I didn't bother to buy a third when the second failed.

The Wii I bought in '06, however? Still chugging along just fine. So is the launch PS3 I bought second-hand, despite occupying the same space the 360 melted itself in.
