Reads their letter to shareholders: "Beyond series, we will be expanding our Originals initiative to include broadly appealing feature documentaries and stand-up comedy specials. I will be happy to see more. Now if they could only make a show on the same grade as Game of Thrones.

That's a tall order, but I am impressed with what Netflix has done so far.

I agree it is a tall order but from what they have done so far I think they could pull it off.

Not if it's another Hemlock Grove (tried to get into it, fell asleep twice on the pilot episode)... House of Cards is the only ace card :-) I find it odd that Lilyhammer didn't get any buzz, I actually enjoyed that show as well.

Peace!

And I think they'll give it a go. I wouldn't be surprised to see a fantasy and a sci-fi series within the next year.

Netflix has an advantage in that they don't need to fill an X minute window of time as the networks do (ie. 30 or 60 minute block, minus credits and commercials, if any.)

Even HBO has to fill somewhere between 48-52 minutes, I think, but since Netflix has no block scheduling and it's essentially on demand, show creators can flexibly write shows where some could be 32 minutes and others 40 minutes, to better pace the stories they want to tell. I could see alot of content creators coming their way with new projects based on this freedom.
