Quote: The guys at the local computer market tell me that internal is much slower to copy games from the Blu-Ray drive to the hard drive
well going from bdrom to internal hdd you have to take into account that the bdrom is reading slower than internal hdd can write... bdrom speed is x2 for bluray disks... so that means "Blu-ray disc read speed maximum is 2x (72 Mb/s [9 MB/s])" so yes disk copy to internal will take time...
Quote: I've heard that USB is slower because it's not directly connected, as SATA is.
ps3 does come with usb 2.0(480 Mbit/s (effective throughput up to 35 MB/s or 280 Mbit/s) so that means the ps3 can read from usb up to 35 MB/s.... this relates to usb hdd and not flash based drives(they are usually slower unless they are high speed ones)....
Quote: I'm told that transferring from PC to internal is incredibly slow.
this one is not true to some extent... if you are transferring from pc using a normal network cable to internal hdd using ftp you will get mixed results... the ps3 has ethernet port that supports up to 1gbit/s(1000mbit/s) it also supports 100 and 10... now normal pc use the same thing 10/100/1000 the problem begins is when router/switch box you use don't support all the speeds you like.. same goes to cables you use... cat5e and cat6 have different speeds 1gbps vs 10gbps... while both give you 1gbps it up to the router/switch box to determine the max speed.... we should also take into account the hdd itself.. the ps3 use sata1(150) if the hdd based on sata1 150mbit/s 5400 rpm you will get around 20-30MB/s while transferring files... even if you use 1gbps cable and router... but if you replace the drive to a faster one sata2(300)... you will not only get faster writes but also faster loading to around 80-200MB/s sata2 is compatible with sata1... with my setup i get around 60-80MB using cat6 cables and 1000base router and sata2 7200 hdd... also take note of the hdd rpm5400 vs 7200.. that also is added to the mix... so all in all its mixed results... too much dependents to say if its true or not lol...
Quote: I'm told that External is FAT32 and is really slow due to that.
not really true... FAT32 is faster than NTFS but not by much.. around 5% more faster... if you use usb3 hdd and use usb3 port on pc using NTFS or FAT32 the write speed will be almost the same apart for larger files... usb3 has over 100MB/s write speeds... now reading the usb3 hdd on ps3 will fallback to usb2 speeds...BUT it will still be faster than bd drive...
Quote: I'm told that External cannot play some games, while Internal fine with any.
this is very true due to limitation of FAT32 it cannot hold files over 4GB...
while internal hdd is based on UFS2 and that file system can hold large files like NTFS does....
so there you go :3
