Wikileaks releases 400GB encrypted file as 'insurance'

WikiLeaks has released a massive 400GB encrypted file that it claims is 'insurance' to 'nullify attempts at prior restraint.'
The group posted the links to Facebook and Twitter and asked fans to download and mirror them wherever they choose.
All of the files remain encrypted with Advanced Encryption Standard-256 bits, and WikiLeaks has not released the key. They may never release the key, either.

Um, the files are HIGHLY encrypted. To break that would take a long time. I doubt anyone would be willing to invest that much time and effort into decrypting that. And the people that could/would isn't everyone. So your argument is hereby fucked.

Man I gotta bet some have already started trying to decrypt it.
Gotta say the thought of any insurance this might give them is laughable anyway.

If you use Google Translate, then Firefox add-on Translate you can decrypt 50%+ of the second file (B)...just saying.

fbi or some other american law enforcement is probably already trying to decrypt it already

Hate to break it to you but it's not highly encrypted.
Standard 256 bit encryption has been broken with a PS3 in 20 mins.
No doubt this has been downloaded and been opened up by now by some people.
The only people who won't open it up are the people who don't know how to break it open.

What you mean they aren't already tracking millions of people around the world already.
WoW and wikileaks is complaining about nothing then?
To be honest they'd be tracking tons of people, and with snowdon in with the russians and probably getting waterboarded for any and all info about the US NSA and it's networks and other links etc.
I don't think he was too bright about coming out about it.
I'm surprised the US government haven't asked for wikileaks leader after all he's a bit silly for thinking he's in a country that the US can't grab him from.

To the person that refuses to download because the NSA would come after them is exactly the reason the NSA should be eliminated. It is complete disrespect and violation of privacy to be tracking anyone without cause. Someone sent a file that we don't know what it contains. better start tracking everyone that uses it. Its time to stand up and not allow them to intimidate and fear us into anything. Start by calling them to your house. Use summonthensa .com. It will do a bunch of google searches for words and phrases the NSA monitors. The only way we can stop them from spying on the normal person is to make them useless regardless if they spy on us or not.

They always shoot the messenger, especially when they have all the cards like the US Government does. Smart move I'd say with the mass distro and keeping the key secret for now. This only proves that Snowden is on the up, which most in the government and media seem to want to make him out as a bad guy.

Only way to download such a huge file without corruption would be via bittorrent protocol. Unless one is living in a country where they have 80 mbps internet connectivity along with similar uploading bandwidth of the torrent hosting sites it is going to take a while to complete this download. On top of this you are going to need another 1 TB of free of for temporary and final decrypted file. This is of course assuming that the file is NOT compressed. If it is compressed AND contains mostly text the final size would be anyone's guess !
