converting hd to sd

can i convert a hd video file into a sd video file? and if so, can i keep it at a small size? i want to put them on a xbox with xbmc on it.

its better and quicker to just get a SD video file than use a HD and convert. since the resolution is different than SD you will lose picture since it will probably just crop the extra off. its like trying to put a painting in a frame that's to small or big it will look squished or stretched one of the two or you may get those nice black blocks on each end. if you want better video quality that will work on an xbox use the original dvd/iso and rip from that or download a dvd/bdrip from your favorite site.

xbox is limited to avi i do believe

no its not it can play quite a few formats its just limited to SD because of the pathetic cpu and ram in it. its limited by what XBMC can play and its actually still being updated just look for xbmc4xbox on google.

Your all wrong the xbox is more than capable of playing hd content why do you think the ntsc xboxes had component cables included,the pal version can also play hd content like the ntsc version the difference is microsoft disabled it,however you can enable it by modding the box & using the component cable which in turn enables the option for playing hd,however the type of hd you can play is limited to the type of encoding,link below if you search the forum will find you a thread on hd content & what settings are best used

the xbox plays all formats as avi or mp4 are nothing more than containers,its the encoder used that will cause issues & what settings are used determines if the movie will play,xbmc's native player is mplayer
