extensive testing? BS. the reason is bloatware, period. custom android instead of stock android so that the vendors can also put bloatware, an "excuse" from the vendors as to why the update is delayed. S4 update in oct, and S3 update in nov, any sane reason behind that?
S4 is garbage, all four major service providers offer garbage service, and the cellular technology all-in-all sucks! It HASN'T come a long way since the inception back in the mid 80's and the instability, unreliability and inconsistency have all remained with little difference from 28 years ago.
I ported my number from Tmobile to Vonage and will not look back until phones are direct competitors to modern day powerful PCs and the service is comparable to home internet and home phone.
No more cell for me yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (it actually feels awesome not being tethered down and all friends and family quickly adjust)

i partly agree with you in that the smartphones don't do what we wanted to do instead of doing it in a PC. this is why i still don't have a high-end (read: expensive) smartphone. in india, a high-end costs you ~ INR 50000 (say, ~ US$ 770); for that price, i can afford to have a relatively high-end laptop!
home broadband is way more powerful than 4G given that the cell providers cap it a lot.
