The new HP Chromebook 11 has been shown off this week, available for just $279. The new 11-inch HP Chromebook 11 weighs just 2.3lb. I just think this is the biggest waste of a product. Would rather have a Surface, Galaxy Note 10.1 or an IPad even than this paperweight nonsense.

I think you are mistaken. This device comes with an even larger screen AND a decent built-in keyboard. The 10" tablets can't compete in price, when you consider that you will need to buy some kind of keyboard (Bluetooth, most likely) or "keyboard cover" to type efficiently on it. That $279 price tag, which will also likely drop soon enough, finally makes Chromebooks (somewhat) a good deal.

I think a subset of users (authors of whatever type, generally) will really appreciate this device, as will companies that issue them to clerical employees as cheapo tools they can take home, if they wish.
