ok, so i have taken a few days to get my head around this new concept of converting video files from this to that, to get my films onto vcd/svcds, and i finally got VirtualDub, a great piece of software.
i converted my xvid into avi i think it was, and then checked both halfs of my movies only to find that the 2nd half was alwasy out of sinc, even though i followed the guidelines that were stated on www.vcdhelp.com.

if anyone could help me on this matter i would be very thankful, as i have been through 2cd's, my fault for not checking the 2nd half's of some of my newly converted files,

You do not need to encode the XviD file to AVI because Xvid is allready AVI...
The reason why the Second file is out of Sync is probably because the audio format in the XviD file is VBR MP3 Format..You will know if this is the Problem if when you Load your XviD file into Virtual-Dub you get an error message saying that the audio is VBR and there could be sync Problems...If this is the case you will have to decompress the audio in the AVI files before you can encode the XviD files to Mpeg1/VCD or Mpeg2/SVCD.....

You should also know that Virtual-Dub will NOT convert your XviD file to the Correct Format for VCD or SVCD because VCD"s need Mpeg1 format and SVCD"s Need the Mpeg2 format...
To convert these XviD files to the correct format you will need a Mpeg encoder Like "Tmpgenc" or the "MainConcept encoder".....

So you should go and download TMPGEnc and then PM me with your E-Mail address and I"ll send you a simple tool that will decompress the audio in your XviD files and then you just encode the XviD files to Mpeg1/VCD or Mpeg2/SVCD useing TMPGEnc..
After you have your Mpeg1/VCD or Mpeg2/SVCD Files you can just use Nero in VCD or SVCD mode to burn them to CD-R.....Cheers

ok i have done everything now, i got that decompressor and then i divide the film using VirtualDub, but then i get the 2nd half of a movie, it keeps coming up in as a divx file, where as all the others open with WMP, and the odd file is file type "2 file" where as the others are "video clip"?

any idea's?
thanks

I"m sory but I don"t understand exactly what you mean???
If you Cut the File in Half Properly the Files format should not Change...
To cut a file in half with Virtual Dub you load in the video file then set Both audio and Video to "Direct Stream Copy" and then use the Mark In and Mark Out buttons to set the Cut Points for the First Half, then go to "File" to "Save AVI" and give the File a Name and save it and in less than 5 minutes the First Half with be Cut, Now you just repeat these steps but set the Cut points for the second Part...

You can also Just encode the Whole file to Mpeg1/VCD or Mpeg2/SVCD and cut it in Half afterwords..TMPGEnc has a Basic Editor Built in, You can also use TMPGEnc to just encode the First half of the AVI file and then encode the second Half...

Cheers
