Our most read article of the past week was the news that AOL had announced the shutdown of popular cross-platform media player Winamp.
Despite rumors that Microsoft may come to save the day, one fan took matters into his own hands, starting a petition on Change.org the day of the announcement begging AOL to make the software open-source rather than shutting it down for good.

I remember the days when I had over 2000 MP3s in my library. Winamp was my go to player and I loved it. Now I use Pandora. They store the files for me and always seem to know what I want to hear. I could go on and on but my point is..Back in my MP3 days you could not have convinced me I would ever give it up to a streaming site. Along with the need for the library went the need for Winamp. It's kinda like my stacks of 500+ CD's I built up gathering dust in the basement or that cooler full of cassettes I finally threw away years ago. You served me well friend and I will always love you but I gotta move on.
