I just signed up with DropBox and they offered me 2.2GB storage if I added a device but after doing so they actually upgraded me to 50GB free for 1 year. I thought this was great until I started to use it. I then started to upload some of my music, around 4G, and the uploading speeds were so horrible that I've changed my mind on using them. I do not have 21 days to upload 4G let alone trying to use the whole 50G. And if I thought it was safe I would use them for small personal files but there is now way I'm doing that so they are totally worthless for my use. With that said I don't see a future for them unless there are many other people that think their poor bandwidth is acceptable, which may still be the case.

I think that Dropbox is a great service and it works like a charm for me. It's not intended to work as a synchronization service for mobile devices, but for desktops and notebooks connected via cable or wireless internet connections. Smarthphones and tablets will use a native app that will synchronize pictures and videos automatically if connected via WIFI and download only on demand.

In your particular case, I don't believe that the poor performance you talk about is really because of Dropbox anyhow, but your upload bandwidth instead. I don't know what country or carrier you are on, but keep in mind that, as far as I know, upstream and downstream aren't simmetric on any mobile networks.

No it is intended for mobile devices, in fact most Andriod and even iOS devices come with it loaded. And no the upload speed isn't a fault of my provider even if they aren't the best, I can upload at much faster speeds on better services. So I would say you missed the mark in both cases.

But like I mentioned there might be plenty of people that would still think their great and you are proof one, I won't bother with them.

OK, if you tested your upload speed and found out that it's much faster than what Dropbox gives you, I apologize for assuming wrong and reckon my mistake.

Of course it's intended for mobile devices, but, at least at this time, not as a synchronization service which is how it will work on desktops and notebooks.

However, I won't argue if you dislike it. Of course, you'll have your reasons. I just found that odd because it's got my demands covered, but maybe it is because I don't need more speed.

Again you are wrong as it is SYNCHRONIZED, you can select what you want to synchronize on mobile or any other device. You don't have your facts in place. Which is why again I said there may be many who find it good. And if it works well for you great but I don't see it...

Okay, okay. I was all wrong then. (But I still can't see that option in the official app neither on my phone, nor in my tablet. It seems to be only a frontend to the website, with the addition of automatic uploading of pics and vids. They're both running Android).

So you're using a 4G connection on a laptop, aren't you? I was talking about the smartphone/tablet app, which is just a frontend to the website with the addition of a local cache for previously downloaded files and automatic upload of pics and vids.

Silly question, and forgive me for it, but... Have you configured anything on the "bandwidth" notch? If not, DropBox will limit the upload speed automatically.

I don't know how can synchronization be turned on in Android, but, even if that could be done, the mobile device should have 50 GB of free space available to be in sync. I don't think that's a good idea, at least nowadays. ;)

You can pick what you want to sync, like Photo's or Music but it isn't worth continuing this line of discussion, at least for me.
