Sorry, I should have asked how much free HD space you have?

Also, do you have a burning program like Nero, or are you trying to burn an ISO with Decrypter?

Also, according to this one article, compression for video files is not a good idea:
http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/fr_index.html?/main/sbs-win-xp-pro-file-compression.html
However, I don't think it is your problem.

It would also be a good idea to go to your drive's web site and try the MSI Live Update. It should tell you if your drive has the latest firmare upgrade. If not, it can be downloaded.

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=601&kind=5

If you don't have Nero installed, please download Nero InfoTools.

http://www.nero.com/en/631940826989307.html

Then check ASPI. It should show a "installed properly" greeen bar for system ASPI. If Nero is installed, it should also show one for Nero. Then check Configuration. All drives should show DMA ON.

Please post what you find.

What about the DMA? Please be sure to answer the questions given you. They are asked for a reason.

I should also tell you that 18 GB is at the edge of what is acceptable for crunching files.

To make a good backup, all you need is Shrink, Nero, and good media. Forget about Decrypter for right now.

Follow this guide. It is for the old version of Shrink, but it will get you going.

Let us know how it works, or if you have more questions.

Not to worry. Let's get you set up with Shrink and Nero, OK?

First, we want to make sure we can rip the files and encode them. Put you DVD in, choose Open Disc. It should spend a couple of minutes Analyzing.

Next, go to Edit, Preferences, File I/O, and uncheck burn with Nero. Close dialog boxes.

Next, click Backup. Choose/make a folder to output files to. Go to Quality settings, and uncheck anything there. Click OK, and you should begin encoding. 30 minutes later you should have a file ready to burn.

If this goes OK, we will move on to Nero. If not, we will see what is wrong, OK?

Hi

I recently had the same problem with Decrypter and Shrink. Some very wise person out here told me to update my drivers and software. I went and did that, it took some time, but since then I've been able to burn without any problems.

Hi moonstone...

The drivers you updated were likely the ASPI layer. That's been done here. 'Glad it worked for you.

Great. That's good news. And I hope you got some good rest. What time zone are you in, anyway? I'm PMT, and its about 11:30 pm. Stay with me here, and I can probably get you going before I have to get my 8 hrs.

1. Launch Nero Burning ROM. You will then get a box inside a box.
2. On the small box, pull down DVD (from CD). You will then see 4 icons. Choose the DVD-Video. Then click NEW.
3. Once you click NEW, you will see 4 panels. Click the red VIDEO_TS folder in the far left. This will clear the 2nd panel.
4. Go to the 3rd panel, choose your drive and then the folder that has the Shrink files.
5. Cut and paste the Video_ts folder from the 4th panel to the 2nd panel.
6. Put a blank DVD into your drive. Use a RW if you have one.
7. Then click on the 9th icon from the left (top row). It looks like a matchstick and flame.
8. You will get another pop-up box, and just click burn. If you have a RW disc, you will first get an error message, and then it will begin to format and burn.

About 20 minutes later you should have a good backup.

Best to use File mode right now.

Also, make sure your HD is defragged. Try to clean out all the temp internet files and cookies you can first, as well as the recycle bin.

Your burned DVD sounds like you had a fragmented HD.

Here's a simple test to see if it's the media...but it's not conclusive. Try to play the Shrink HD file in PowerDVD. That is, if you ripped in File mode. (If you ripped in ISO mode, you need to mount this file in an emulator provided in something like Daemon tools.) If the images jump, etc., it means the final DVD will do the same. If it plays smoothly, it is most likely the media. Make sense? Ultimately, you are going to have to use good media.
