Review: The LG G Watch and an introduction to Android Wear

article published on 7 July, 2014

Android Wear, the first true step into the future of smartwatches has arrived via the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live. Companies as small as Pebble and as large as Samsung have tried their hands at smartwatches but so far there have been no winners in the industry. Pebble with its Pebble Steel, is the clear style winner, but the device itself lacks application support and a capable touch screen. ... [ read the full article ]

Damn, this is one ugly watch. Looks like your wearing a small smartphone on your wrist. Could you imagine what it would look like on a woman's wrist.

All jokes aside, I guess I can see this concept going somewhere, but I don't want to put my cell phone on Bluetooth all day, the battery life sucks as it is with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned off.

I'd like to know why the cellphone couldn't connect with the watch like it does with Chromecast.

Seems these people have forgotten that watches are more about fashion than necessity these days. This thing is gawdy and tacky. No thanks.

If the look they were going for was "FUGLY", then they nailed it!! I wanna meet the square who signed off on that design, he needs a lesson in fashion.

It doesn't look like it is ready for prime time. Looks like the reviewer is a stanch Android fan re the comment on operating systems. In my experience, the Blackberry OS is by far the best, followed by Apple with Android a distant third and I have all three systems. The Android remains a toy and is not a serious cell phone system.

What is the last version of Android you have used? Why do you call it a toy?

I should have called it an entertainment device and not a toy but the fact remains that the Android system is geared to entertainment and not work related communications, no mater which version you use. I have a Galaxy Note 8 and it has been a real disappointment and it is powered by one of the latest versions.

I have to very strongly disagree. Android is far more a business platform than Apple. More compatibility. More applications. Legitimate business tools like terminal emulators and security and penetration suites.

Apple is definitely a toy and fashion statement, which with great prodding can be tuned to support a small subset of business needs.

Android is a disparate and scattered eco system with far more power and very little effort needed to cover nearly any portable business desire.

I would have to say that you are completely wrong! Android applications are a mess and the security is a joke. If you want a serious business phone, the Blackberry Z30 is by far the best phone and the Blackberry OS is the most robust on the market. Just ask the US military.

Okay, since you asked...
Most of us don't care for it. When given a choice, Android or iOS is preferred, but you know how it goes with the lowest bidder. :-(

You call the US military lowest bidder?
