If you want a OnePlus One you can finally get one without the stupid invite system

article published on 19 September, 2014

OnePlus, the Chinese startup behind the cheap and incredibly powerful OnePlus One device, is finally making the device available without the stupid invite-only system that kept thousands and thousands of customers on the sidelines. The company will offer "flash sales," of the device, with limited quantities being sold on first come, first serve basis. Anyone who orders after the limited ... [ read the full article ]

I would rather they sold them through a UK supplier - there is no way I would buy a phone without being able to see it or return it easily if I wasn't satisfied. They should sell them through Amazon

Finally! I had to pay for an invite from Ebay, but other than that I am extremely satisfied with my OPO. It's a lot faster than my Galaxy S4 was, and the 64GB of storage rules!! It's so nice not to have to go through the hassle of moving apps to the SD card...I've installed tons of stuff that I would not dream of putting on my S4, and I still have 44GB of storage remaining! :) Everything about the phone is awesome, though I would've preferred that it was rooted before shipping. I haven't had the burning need to root it yet, but there are several tutes out there that sound relatively easy.

I'm very curious now to see what the impact will be on the market. I read an article the other day saying how Apple is afraid of Samsung, when in fact THIS is the phone they should be fearing the most!

You CAN buy them on Amazon, though with the invite system they were being sold at a premium. There's nothing saying that you can't resell it if you're not satisfied, but coming from a long-time Android user and proud owner of an OPO I can honestly say I doubt you'd be disappointed in it!

Oz? You may have to consult the wizard about that...lol! :)

Seriously, I can certainly help with anything you'd like to know. Haha I meant Australia Sterno.... as if you didn't know already :P

Wow looks pretty nice. I see why your so keen. At last a performance phone that's more realistically priced... and someone that appreciates it. I'm a bit bit sick of the Stephen Fry's of the world suggesting that iPhones etc. are somehow important to show that you have money to waste. It's what I call, more dollars than sense. :)

You could sit with that phone for ages without feeling any need to upgrade. They need to step up production imo to be a real threat to the establishment.

Cheers, soz about the late reply.

Well, here's a bit of disturbing news about Samsung: Within a 3 week period of time, both my girlfriend's S4 and her niece's S3 not only rebooted, but did so to the factory settings! I scoured the web looking to find a similar issue but found absolutely nothing on it. At first I thought it was an isolated incident until her niece's went south as well. Neither one of those phones have a custom ROM OR are rooted for that matter, which 1) surprises me greatly that others have not had similar issues and 2) worried me greatly that mine may be next. That is why I invested in an OPO, which was a huge gamble for me considering I had nothing to go on except for reviews and such. I am officially done with Samsung as well as crApple (had a ton of issues with them in the past too with an 3G, and even my 5th gen ipod touch's apps constantly freeze or crash so apparently they've learned nothing during the intervening time :().

I did a bit of poking around for you, and gizmodo.com.au did a review of the OPO here: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2014/07/onepl...ic-smartphone/, and I also found this review from an Australian user on OPO's forum: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/aust...lus-one.55332/. Therefore I'm assuming it's quite usable "down under", but depending on your provider you may want to do a bit more research on your own before purchasing...good luck! :)
