Vizio introduces affordable 4K TVs

article published on 24 September, 2014

Vizio has officially priced and made available their P-Series 4K LCDs, the sets that drew rave reviews at this year's CES. The powerful sets include full-array backlit panels with local dimming, Active Pixel Tuning tech for greater light bleed elimination and overall picture that should rival OLED and its perfect picture quality. Vizio promises excellent 1080p HD picture, and normal ... [ read the full article ]

That's pretty impressive pricing for what it is. I'd be interested to see more of it, one it hits market before dishing down on that though.

Ooooo I love my Vizio TV been looking to upgrade but half the models I been looking at been wishy washy quality wise maybe this will be good.

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

4K is pointless and a barely noticeable difference from 1080.........unless MAYBE they're side by side and even that would likely discourage people from buying into this nonsense crap because then they'd see that the difference is negligible at best.

Vizio TVs have terrible longevity and really are TVs for people that can't afford better. Kinda an 'upper class ghetto TV'

I'm sure Zippy whom LOVES HIS VIZIO would disagree with me.

Not really I got a relatively good one but some of them are bad but you get bad models with Panasonic and Sony too so meh.

Surprise, surprise! More negativity from Hearme0. lol
I have a 70 inch LED Vizio, and happen to love mine, as well. Could I have afforded a more expensive model from Samsung or LG? Yes, but I CHOSE the Vizio, because side by side, they looked comparable, with the Vizio actually having richer color. Had mine for 3 years now, and no complaints. I do agree with the 1080P vs. 4k argument...to a point. On a 50 inch, it's hard to tell the difference, but as the size increases, the differences become more apparent. I'm in no hurry to upgrade, though. I'm completely happy with 1080.

My only complaint with mine is its 60hrz and has some screen tearing now and then.

Ummm...Yeah. My $3000 Sony T.V. died after 3.5 years. But that must have been one of those "Ghetto T.V.'s". There are Vizios that are $3000. Is that a bargain basement price? On the other hand there are 60" Samsung and Sony T.v.'s for 1000-1500. It's rare that you see T.V.'s for more than $3-4 thousand these days, and usually those are around the cream of the crop. More often it's 1-2 thousand range for any brand, including those ghetto models. Doh!

I see a very noticeable difference between 4K and 1080P, IF watching a 4K source. The problem is there is VERY LITTLE in 4K source material OR hardware at the moment. And at least some of the 4K source hardware is NOT compatible with MOST of the currently available 4K displays!

If you are going to make your own 4K home movies, it would DEFINITELY be worth the move to a 4K display however.

So I will wait on 4K, not because it is not noticeably better, but because there is not a real standard in place yet, nor is source hardware and/or material widely available yet.

Up-scaling to 4K is of marginal improvement at best under 50", and slightly to somewhat noticeable from what I have seen over 50"

I think it's Sieki? The company that actually makes a lot of the screens for the other companies has had cheap 4K TV's for years. This is no big breakthrough.

Not even close to true. There are so many advantages to UHD and sharpness being a huge one there is no reason not to move to it. I have the Samsung UN55HU8850 and EVERYONE who has seen it, even when they didn't know it was a 4K, were super impressed. My mom is so envious that she salivates every time she sees it and wishes she could afford one too. I told her that Vizio was coming out with these deals in the fall which she maybe can afford, probably with my help.

Another of the big advantages to a 4K is you can smug your nose to the screen and not be annoyed by the pixels like you would with a 1080p.

There are disadvantages as well, one being a halo-pixelation on SD signals with fast movement which is a Clearmotion issue. Also when the upconvert from SD you loose picture detail, its much crisper and pops but the images are more chiseled. Again I've seen this on 1080p upscale too but it is more defined going to UHD, its like the contrast is set too high.

Regardless of those short comings it is still way better then any Plasma or of course LCD's prior.

I could get the 70" Vizio for what my 55" Sammy cost last spring so that's a fantastic deal and anyone that can afford should step up to the plate, even Zippy. ;P

I know several people that bought Vizio TV's and they all tell me they stink ! They break down, they hum, bad circuits and grounds. Stay away from them ! My Panasonic 750p 42" Plasma is better then them all !

On your 4k opinion I totally agree. But, of course, if you get a 80 inch screen size the difference will start to be noticeable. But for up to 55 - 60 inches of screen, my opinion, there is absolutely no reason to spend what a 4k costs. Well, except for bragging rights.
