Review: The massive Nexus 6 is the perfect device for Android Lollipop

article published on 2 December, 2014

As they do every year, Google has launched a new Nexus device to showcase their latest and greatest Android iteration. This year, Google decided to go big with the Nexus 6, a device firmly in the phablet category with its six inch display. Google also decided to step away from their low-end pricing for a high-end device model that had served them well with previous Nexus phones, starting ... [ read the full article ]

OVERKILL and totally UNNECESSARY!

Add to that, the brutal debilitating slowness of ALL ANDROID devices after a few short months and I then ask "how is this the 'Perfect' device for Lollipop"

Lollipop will suck donkey balls just as KitKat, ICS, JB, etc.

Android has got to be the most over-hyped and worst implementations of an OS ever since windows 98/Me

Nope ISO is still over hyped and since you have more options to mod a android OS android wins.

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

Typing this from my "slow" Android device. Funny; doesn't seem so slow to me. lol

That being said, holy crap that thing is HUGE. Would look funny in a normal sized person's hand.

For me the 5.5" screen on OnePlus One is already huge. It's borderline uncomfortable to sit down with an OPO in my pocket ? I don't think I could do it with a 6" phone. Besides that having a larger screen on your phone really does help. With a smaller phone I often opted for a tablet. Now I usually just pick up whichever is closest.

I agree with you to some extent. My 2012 Nexus 7 has crept from being very snappy to rather sluggish, with battery life diminishing with the performance. Nothing a factory reset wouldn't cure probably, but I really don't fancy the hassle of setting it up from scratch.

Unfortunately the same goes for my iPad mini. Especially with the iOS8 updates it's functions have become more and more erratic. The orientation sensor lags behind (takes a couple of seconds at times to switch orientation), which causes frustrating (and amusing) times when I think that the orientation change wasn't picked up by the device, rotate it again, and then watch the screen do a 360° on it's own.

Also on the iPad mini switching from one app to another is a pain. It can take a good 5 seconds for an app to become responsive if it has been in the background for a longer period. This usually doesn't affect Safari, but things like Podcasts, Twitter, Feedly, and Chrome can take way too long to open.

I think I need to shell out for a Jolla tablet next..

3gb of RAM. Wow.
I'd expect that to keep speeds up for a long time to come no matter what you put on it.

My rooted Nexus 7 2012 upgraded itself to Lollipop without a hitch. As a matter of fact it got snappier. There are a whole lot of applications available - some may need root access - to switch to single handed operation which would otherwise require 2 hands. Unfortunately I can't justify the price tag for my usage.
