CBS pulls programming from Dish Network in 16 cities

As is becoming standard procedure in the industry, CBS has pulled its programming from the Dish Network in 16 metro cities in the U.S., including NYC, LA and Chicago following failed licensing negotiations.

My mother has Dish and she's a big CBS watcher so it looks like Dish Network just lost a customer.

That's too bad, It's not Dish's fault I was reading CBS wants soo much more money that Dish would have to raise their customers bills and prices in order to give CBS what they want. That sucks Im a dish customer and the reasons why I chose Dish cause of there price and the quality of the equipment they use.

Was a totally satisfied dish customer for 11 years - didn't even know about AMC but when they dropped TCM for a month or so I switched to Directv with no regrets so far. Bill about 1/2 for 1st year, then you pay full bill for 2nd year(for me same as monthly dish bill)then are free to go where the best deal is. Perhaps by then dish will sink or swim. BTW pricing for channels is packaged different but you pay about the same with either one at the end of the day.

Directv's equipment is just as good - if not better - then Dish's. FE they have an option under info for cast and crew, gives the actors and such birth and death dates, their entire filmography, upcoming movies, and more. Dish has nothing close to that. If I wanted that kind of detail I had to turn to PC. And this business with CBS occurred a week or so after settling with CNN, TCM, etc. who were "gone" for a month or so. What would you expect them to say but they are looking out for your bills? HaHa They should fire their CEO.

Dish blackout = no CBS? Since when was CBS no longer ota? (psst... it's still is ota).
For the price of a month of DISH, go out and get a good hdtv antenna.
And come to think of it, the last time I had satellite I recall something about satellite companies not being allowed to charge customers for local ota programming. What's happened since then? Are people actually PAYING for otherwise free programming?

No extra for OTA's on either Dish or Directv, Obviously you live in a city, Antenna not a good option for rural folks

An antenna is a perfect option for rural folk.
I live rural, hence the need for a good hdtv antenna. The one I use has a 90 mile range but there are more powerful.

When I said "good" antenna, I meant one that's actually good.
I'm not talking about one of those off-the-shelf $10 antennas which you plug in and hide behind your tv.

90 miles won't quite cut it for me. Anyway I like to watch TCM and the old movies. No antenna will give you that. All a matter of what works best for every individual.

When I had Directv it only the one was HD and I could only record 2 things. Directv used to cut out all the time and there customer service was horrible. I have not had any of those issues with Dish. I can log into my Hopper from anywhere with my phone and watch my tv and DVR stuff. My bill is like 30 bucks cheaper then it was with Directv and didnt direct TV loose CBS not too long ago?

Don't know about CBS being "loosed" good for you with the results you are getting from dish, although I question the $30 a month cheaper than directv, channel for channel. I was a contented dish customer for 11 years and I don't know how you pulled that off. If you are not interested in facts, filmographies, similar/upcoming movies, that's your choice. Personally I think it's a great feature.
Dish shuts down at 1:30AM every night to "upgrade" and you can't change it. Why every night? Directv does it in the background. BTW of course their equipment is not the same. Ummm 2 different businesses. You must have been paying mega bucks for 3 Hoppers, only way you could do more than 1TB recording period, other than external HDD's.
I had 1 main receiver (aka Hopper) c/w 1 TB of space and 2 "joey" receivers and could do 5 recordings at a time. I also have a 1TB USB a/v external HDD. The more you choose to record in HD, the less space you have. Fact. Your comment just doesn't ring true sir. Please remember I had dish for 11 years.

It doesn't matter to me how many years you had Dish sir. I have it now and my hopper has a 2TB HD internal and I have 1 super Joey 1 reg joey I can record 8 items at once. I dont know about you but with my Hopper I am able select what time my Hopper updates mine does it at 3am and it takes less then 5 minutes. And again I can access my Hopper from anywhere and my bill is cheaper now then when I had Directv and I have everything. You can phrase how ever you like the Fact is Directv is Garbage.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one. Enjoy the dish. I'll enjoy what I choose. I live in a country where you are free to choose what programming carrier is best for your particular viewing pleasure.
You must work for dish, can't figure out why you are so hung up on it. Impossible to get all those extras and "everything" whatever that means and have a $30 cheaper bill. Take the time to do a channel by channel comparison as I did before switching providers and you WILL see they are all about the same.
You don't get something for nothing and if what you are saying was true, directv wouldn't be in business for long would they? Seems to me dish is the one that can't even keep their channel lineup intact and you really think it's to save you money? wow!!
I forgot to mention the $40 monthly discount for the 1st year of the 2 year commitment. That alone is worthwhile sir.
Only reason I mentioned being a satisfied dish customer for 11 years is to illustrate I ought to know what I'm talking about relative to dish. Have fun recording 8 shows at a time while I learn about the actors, their individual filmographies, and upcoming movies they all are in and can only record 5 at once.
BTW that bravado is not going to influence many folks, if that is your intent, b/c they will do what works best for them, as I am.
It's not a "one size fits all" thing at all but rather what the individual or family wants and/or expects for their money.

Other way around. Directv is garbage, what an intelligent comment. Dish is not garbage Directv is not garbage but rather 2 businesses competing for the entertainment dollar. They both have their pros and cons. Why is it you are so bitter and confrontational? Directv drop you? Work for Dish?? Why don't you understand that it's up to every individual or family to choose what works best for them? That's all I have or need to say on the matter. I could care less what anybody prefers. Just go where you get the most bang for your buck, period.
