Try http://www.dvd-media.info They are a Canadian online source, GREAT prices and, in CDN dollars!
S/H prices are the most "honest" around.
The media is all "A" Grade, unbranded.
Good Luck

At www.blankmedia.ca they list Ritek however they don't say which model it is, they dont specify if they are G04 or what. Should I just assume G04 if they are 4x writeable DVD-R?

aut0psy,
If you click on the details of the ritek media it'll show you that they are G04. For example, click on "DVD-R 4X RITEK SILVER MATTE" and a screen with this info will pop up. On the 2nd line where it says "media code Mfr" it says RitekG04.
Format: cake box packaging in 100 pcs
"Media Code Mfr: RITEKG04"
Formatted Size: Blank
Total Size: 4.7GB
Book Type: DVD-R
Media Type: DVD-R
Media Code Id: 4.0x 5540kbs
Write Strategy Speed: 4.0x 5540KBs
Current Drive Speed: 4.0x 5540KBs
Default Rotation: CLV
Linear Density: 0.267um/bit
Layers: 1
I just order 35 dvd-r from them and they shipped it in 2 business days. I believe www.blankmedia.com has the best prices for canadian costumers. I haven't burnt them yet though, so I'm not sure of the quality yet.
O yeah i went to the canadacomputers store and they didn't have much media, plus they're prices are more expensive then blankmedia.

Hi aut0psy
Did you not say in another post you have a Benq DW1610 burner. If so, the reviews say it performs better burning +R rather than -R media. I have three BenQ burners 800 / 822 and last week the 1610. With the 800 the performance on the Arita 4x discs from www.blankmedia.ca burn at 8x with great results
I hope this helps

Where have you seen review on the 1610 that say this?
My only concern with +R is being less supported.

Hi aut0psy
I own three Benq burners before buying I did a search and discoved the following on BenQ drives
A review on the 822 see http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/143/9
The negative comments say that "Slow at writing DVD-R discs at 4x compared to the competition"
Speed tests at CD freaks best reaults on +R http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=104640
Over at CD-R Labs see this review http://cdrlabs.com/articles/index.php?articleid=32&page=4 In the conclusions they say "The DW1600's biggest weakness is its lack of support for the DVD-R/RW format."
In Benq case +R is better supported with their Book Management option to set +R as a DVD-Rom or to burn 8x media at 12x or 16x. As for playback support if the book type is set at DVD-Rom very few players will not play the DVD. I have a friend who has a Toshiba stand alone DVD player that will not play most burnt DVDs however when a +R DVD burnt with the DVD-Rom setting it plays it just fine
I hope this helps

In the bottom cdrlabs.com test on the 1600 where they specify ""The DW1600's biggest weakness is its lack of support for the DVD-R/RW format." this is because it literally doesn't support it, doesnt have multi format support where as the 1610 does.
I wonder if I should pick up a spindle of DVD+R instead and try them out.....hmm.....thats what you run all the time through youre burners is +R without issue?
Thanks

Hi aut0psy
I believe the reference to support relates to the list of -R media the burner will burn as compared to other dual burners such as the Pioneer.
I have been burning with +R since my first burner.
For a media guide see http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm I use mainly RICOHJPN001 media. The Arita from www.blankmedia.ca have this media code. So does Maxell and Fuji and some Memorex to list a few.
If you have a Staples nearby they have the Fuji on sale for $5.95 for a pack of 5. Best Buy has the Maxell for $29.99 for a 25 pack. With the Maxell of Fuji both the +R and -R will work in that burner
I hope this helps
PS Future Shop will match Best Buy's price

I am in Canada too. Be careful with Verbatim DVD+R they can be flavour of the day when it comes to media code. I would by the Maxells - Future Shop does carry them.

Really, go for the MAxell over Verbatim?
Do you also recommend I go with a DVD+R as opposed to a DVD-R?

Yes I would choose Maxell over Verbatim. Take a look at that media guide and compare the two brands. The Maxell are all quality media. Some of the Verbatim are iffy media.
I have used the Maxell 4x +R without any problems on the 800 they burn at 8x
I hope this helps

Just an FYI...
I was just reading Futureshop web site and the Maxell 25pk spindle of DVD-R & DVD+R are on sale for $29.99 regular $54.99. Needless to say I just went back and change my $89.99 50pk for 2 $29.99 25pk's :).

I picked up the spindles of DVD-R instead today as my Progressive scan DVD player states DVD-R/RW only.
Copied 2 DVD's so far and did "Read Error Tests" using DVDInfoPro without a SINGLE error. These look MUUUCH better than the Kodak's that had about 1500 errors in the first 30% of scanning :(.
I would definitely recommend Maxell now as well! Thumbs up!

Hi Newfee
The Cicero DVDs are crap. The media code on the +R is the same as the Kodak +R - no name 001-000. The -R are no better.
As I said earlier in another thread cheap media provide cheap results. If you are putting the time and effort to backing up your games and movies - why try to save 25 cents on a disc - to have poor results.
I just ran a error check on two different discs
Disc 1 was the Cicero +R and had 5% read errors
Disc 2 was a Maxell + R and had no read errors.
Quality always out performs and outlasts economy
If at first you don't succeed ...........!
