Your local RadioShack could be a Sprint store soon

article published on 15 January, 2015

Bankrupt electronics store RadioShack is in talks to sell leases for some of its stores to major U.S. carrier Sprint. The retailer is expected to file for bankruptcy next month after a half decade of declining sales and profits and will be closing over 1000 stores, as well. RadioShack hopes to emerge from bankruptcy with around 3000 stores compared to the 4000 it has now, and the leasing ... [ read the full article ]

A sad story. They were extremely late to the cell phone party so I don't know what they were thinking there. They should have stuck to what they were good at. Radio Shack could have been a great local outlet for hard-to-find electronic components and repair tools. All they really needed was a revamp of what was being carried in their stores. Talk about a waste of space!

They should've kept to their bread and butter business of selling electronic components such as transistors.

Second that with being able to get something on Amazon, and faster. I understand profit margin and running a brick and mortar store, but come on, you cannot charge $20 for a cable I can find for a few bucks online. People aren't that gullible anymore.

The stores aren't large enough for them to offer any other traditional consumer electronics, for example, that Best Buy would. And even with Best Buy, they have diversified over and over, because they have the same type of scam with accessories, albeit, they can hook you for larger priced items such as TVs, etc.

I guess that suppliers such as MCM & Mouser have rendered RadioShack obsolete......
