Netflix acknowledges that Popcorn Time is 'competition' with misleading chart

article published on 22 January, 2015

During Netflix's recent quarterly shareholders report, in which the company showed huge growth in subscribers, there was a small note in which the streaming giant cited Popcorn Time, the piracy streaming service that has been called the "Netflix of Piracy" in the past. The company, in a section entitled "Competition," Netflix says: "Piracy continues to be one of our biggest competitors. ... [ read the full article ]

Yeah when it works and if you're protected by VPN (I use mine. I don't trust theirs). Like torrenting in general it'll get your ISP some of those letters you are trying to pirate movies.

Pretty much this piece of software is dangerous. If you're savvy enough to protect yourself straight up torrenting is way better in my opinion.

Just my $0.02,

This statement could not be more true!

Popcorn Time is way dangerous! It's comes stacked with two (2) standard viruses packed in the K-lite codec pack, very hard to detect without antivirus/spyware.

It can't be used with Peerblock as that will block the program's essential core to make it work.

Plus, I got DMCA violation notice from using this P.O.S. program while wife fell asleep watching one (1) episode of the now defunct and cancelled "Selfie"

Anyone that knowingly uses Popcorn Time and is somewhat tech savvy is an IDIOT! Anyone using Popcorn Time after being told everything I just said is a BIGGER IDIOT!

Sorry you got a DMCA violation notice. I don't think someone who uses a program they like is an idiot. Now, they might be ASKING FOR TROUBLE, but certainly not an idiot. In fact, even being aware of the existence of Popcorn Time and how it works shows quite the opposite. I think an idiot would be someone who doesn't know about P2P file sharing at all. Actually, I wouldn't use the term idiot, I think ignorant would be a better word. Then again, that same person who doesn't know the first thing about P2P file sharing might be able to tell you things about the inner workings of the human brain that would make your own head spin. We all have our areas of expertise.
I love Popcorn Time. I use it all the time. I've watched quite a few movies on there actually. Do I feel guilty about it? Yes. Do I watch movies I know I would have rented if it weren't for Popcorn Time? No. Do I justify my actions in my own mind? Yes. Do I run the risk of a DMCA notice? Maybe. Do I care? No. Do I enjoy taking large and unnecessary risks? Yes. Do I care what other people think of that tendency? No.
