Report: Music piracy has been eliminated in Norway

According to the latest IFPI report out of Norway, music piracy has been eliminated in the nation in just 5 short years.
In the countrywide survey, only 4 percent of Norwegians under the age of 30 said they use illegal file-sharing platforms to get their music, down from 80 percent in 2009. Only 1 percent of Norwegians admitted that unauthorized file sharing was their main or only source ... [ read the full article ]

And whats funny honestly do you think your country's population is going to tell you the truth that they are not illegally getting music nope they will just use a vpn you can't track and tell you to go to heck in a hand basket your numbers honestly don't mean jack because you asked people.

I personally haven't had any need whatsoever to pirate any music in ages. I pay happily for Spotify and it has all the bands/artists that I listen to. It is simply put, easier to use, than downloading MP3s off torrent sites. I'd have to sync the Mp3s to all my devices, etc etc... Too much hassle.
Now, wondering how long it'll take before the movie industry sees the light and drops exclusive streaming deals and lets all the players, Netflix included, to license "everything".

Ah. Here in Finland, all the data plans are unlimited, I pay ?9.95/mo for unlimited, uncapped 3G data. Thus, streaming makes sense.
Plus, with Spotify, simply tick your favourite playlists as "available offline" and ... kinda solves the data problem, as it stores those on SD card.

Sheeeet........When I want a song/album, I simply torrent. WAY MORE CONVENIENT AND FASTER! Cheaper, more accessible! Music is just begging to be downloaded for free......BEGGING...so I'm happy to oblige.
However.....I do buy some songs; ones that are impossible to find.
Otherwise, I download maybe 1 or 2 albums a year, unlike the schlomos on this and all other tech sites that rampantly pirate without EVER giving back.
I buy movies like crazy so my occasional download is not a concern to me because I'm not leeching like so many.

I almost own all the most popular music since the 80's & some since the 50's & very few since 1917.
Also most of the Music videos since 2005 till today.
FYI:
There is around 250 to 300 most popular songs every year and as we go back into time are less and less by year.
So I don't bite the 20 Millions songs that this or that streamers have to offer, 'cos most of their music is unknown/garbage or their trashy -320kbps stream.
Streaming is out of my league !!!
When I want a song: I want it NOW !!!
I already pay for a least 50% of my music.
...and the other 50%, I pay for by converting (time) & storage it or carried with me to everywhere (Memory Cards, Flash Drives, CD-R, DVD-R, HDD, SSD, etc.) or going into concerts.
Just my $0.02

With most new music sucking of course piracy will go down. People have what they want already and can care less what comes out in the future. Plus, like the article states you can stream it for free anyway.

Few people are real music lovers, just like video gamers, etc.
New music come every single day:
But very few song are good to hold & keep.
Right now I'm into burning mp4 music videos into DVD-R as HD (1080p &/or 720p) with a regular DVD burner &/or BR burner.

T-Mobile in the U.S. allows unlimited streaming of music, and it doesn't go against your data caps. I stream from Google Play Music quite often.

Yup...right now I am on an old 10$ flip phone and on Verizon dolling out 16$ a month at 25cents a minute since I rarely use it but I sooooo want to get a smart phone a galaxy, AT&T is like that at 25$ a month for voice but you can have a smart phone, no more having a Itouch 3rd gen and a cell phone...whenever I have any money >< >>

even if the statistics were accurate (which I doubt) would it mean that people were buying more music? The elimination of piracy would simply mean that people would only keep the music they really like on their devices. Music that they might previously have dowloaded and archived to listen to occasionally will no longer be listened to. People might "want" to collect a million tracks but they will never pay for that many.
I know people who collected albums "back in the day" but as yet have not listened to more than a few of the tracks - they just like the "completeness" of their collection

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not use that excuse. Claiming "music sucks/movies suck/hollywood puts out crap" makes you and all others sound ignorant and uneducated enough to come up with another real and legit reason for downloading illicit stuff.
If it was that crappy, most wouldn't download ever but after ragging on the song(s), movie(s), etc like so many do, they then just go ahead and download the stuff anyway. Totally hypocritical
