I have been burning alot of coasters lately and don't know why. I have a desktop with a + burner that works wonderfully. My coasters are coming from a laptop I purchased last week. Its a P4, +/- Matshita UJ820S burner. I have 2 successful burns, 1 on a Liquid Video -R and another on a FMI +RW. I have installed the new version of ASPI as recommended to someone else. I am using shrink and nero. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Here is the error I am receiving.

Before you do anything else, download and update to the new version of Nero (6.3.1.17) and use some different media. Ritek or Verbatim will work more consistently than what you are currently using.

You may want to wait a day or two before getting the update, new versions come out around the first of the month.

Try a simulated burn with the new version and see what it does. It is looking like you may have a problem with your media near the outer edge.

Try and play your coaster, sometimes they will play as long as all the data has been written. The lead-out is more of a boundary to let your player know that it has reached the edge of the disc and to return to the menu. It may or may not work, just curious.

Thanks for the advice, I will try that. I actually got a couple of good burns going a different route. I used shrink to an iso image then clonedvd2 to burn. Worked perfectly, a little more involved but none the less coaster free!! 99% of the coasters only burned a thin line at the center and the rest was blank and did not play.
I have read alot of different threads and see alot of comments about media differences. On my desktop (HP burner) I use nothing but Memorex 4x +R discs and have done over 100 discs without 1 coaster, lucky, I don't know but I understand what everyone is meaning in the actual manufacturing of the media. There were several posts that recommended sites for purchasing Ritek or Verbatim (and blank cases) anyone know of a good place I would appreciate it greatly.

Thanks for all the help!

Your log indicated that the burn process went on for about 25 minutes. Kinda makes me wonder why it took that long to error. You have a vintage version of Nero so it is very possible if you have had it installed a long time that it may have gotten corrupted. Nero shouldn't be moved once it's installed, thats how I usuallly screw it up.

Certainly nothing wrong with trying a different program, I tend to help folks out with the ones they mention though, rather than recommending different software. Using CloneDVD2 validates your burner and does kinda narrow things down to your Nero installation, though.

I have had good luck with Memorex myself, but I get some freezing and pixelation when burning -R Memorex at 8X on my Pioneer. The Ritek seem to work better. Actually both work the same when burned at 4X. One of the problems with Memorex is that you never know what you are getting. They source the discs from various manufacturers.

I prefer my coasters to have more on them than just one thin line. It just seems like such a waste!
