Is it possible to fit 4.44 Gigabytes onto a DVD+R?

A Single layer DVD+R is supposed to hold 4.7 gigabytes. However, I read in some computer tech sites that it only holds a practical 4.36 gigabytes.

I am hoping to burn a bunch (26 to be exact) of .avi files totalling 4.44 Gigabytes onto a single DVD withot stripping anything out. Is it still possible? Are there DVDs taht support a bit more than the 4.36 standard besides the obvious DL DVDs.

There are 2 ways of designating byte size. The manufacturers use 1000 bytes as a KB and the scientific count and the one used with computers is 1024. So an actual 4.7GB is 5046586572.8 bytes. By the manufacturers count that is 5.04GB. Get the picture. The labeled 4.7GB disc is in reality only about 4.38GB. So without a reduction in size the entire 4.44GB files will not fit the 4.38 GB size of the 4.7 discs. If you have to have the entire files without editing of some sort, there is always the dual format discs and burners.

You mean dual layer right?

I was hoping to avoid it because it would feel such a waste if I'm only using 4.44 gigs of it unless I dump other useless stuff along with it.. :(
