I am using WinDVR3 to capture, DVDLAB to compile and Nero6 to burn. That has been fine for my son?s Thomas tapes. But I am getting dropped frames that are noticeable on other tapes. Also, if the tape is longer than about an hour WinDVR cuts it into two files. How do I merge these back together?

I have TMPGEnc and Adobe Premiere. My DVDLAB trial is about to expire. Will one of the two listed do the same or better job than DVDLAB?

I don?t have many more to transfer, so I don?t want to buy anything else if at all possible.

What you have to do so that WinDVR 3.0 doesn"t cut your Files into Pieces is to make a Custom Capture Profile and se the Max file size really high ,Like to 50,000mb, then windvr3.0 will not cut the file untill it reaches the File size which it won"t if you set it to 50,000mb+....

Tmpgenc is an Encoder and Adobe Premier is a Editor so none of them can be used to Author Files to DVD like DVDLab....You can download a 30 day demo of "Tmpgenc DVD Author" but it isn"t nearly as good as DVDLab....

Dropped Frames can be caused from a Lot of Things Like if your PC isn"t quite fast enough...You should have at least a 2.0ghz CPU for Full resolution Mpeg2 capture useing WinDVR 3.0..You should also turn off all apps that are running in the Backround when captureing and do nothing with your PC while Captureing Video....
Also if your Tapes are really old that can cause Dropped Frames or if the Tapes are Retail VHS Tapes then they could be Copy protected which can cause Dropped Frames...

You should also get a bitrate Calculator so you can set the Capture bitrate baced on the Length of the Movie you are Captureing so that the whole movie fits on a Single DVD..It is a Bit of a Waste only getting an Hour on a DVD when you should be able to get over twice that....

If you need to Join 2 files together then you can do it with TMPGEnc the Encoder..If you run TMPGEnc and go to "File" to "Mpeg Tools" to "Merge & Cut" and Load in Both files and click "Run" it will join the 2 files into One....
