UK resident arrested for Pirate Bay torrents

British police arrested a man on Thursday morning for allegedly uploading torrents to popular sites to help distribute music files.
The 38-year old was arrested in Everton, Liverpool, during a raid carried out by the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU), which investigates copyright infringement and counterfeiting in the United Kingdom.

ok it's a crime but in a country where piracy is always there because your products are so overpriced its totally uncalled for i could see why he would be uploading torrents

Probably the stuff was current hits. So how can that be considered music? I am confused. He was uploading crap and got arrested for not wiping up afterwards?

Always makes me laugh when they bleat about the money they are losing, they arrogantly believe that people would have to buy the stuff if they couldn't get it from torrents etc.
No, they would just get it another way, even if they had to resort to the old-fashioned way of recording off the radio.

the guy was using the torrents to drive traffic to his web site where he got money from ads
thus he was making money from the music files

it's a crime to photocopy a published book and give to someone too but they don't have Xerox police

What surprises me is why aren't the authorities going after the advertisers who actually know that they are supporting piracy !

I remember when in the 80s I was working for a photo copy service outfit. Students from the premium technical institute - IIT, Mumbai, India - would bring VERY expensive text books from the library and have these photocopied at close to 30% of the cost of USED originals. After all its the economics that rule the actions.

definitely! if the book is more than 5 cents per page then people are going to photocopy the entire open book two pages per dime to save money or even acquire that which is too expensive otherwise
this continues today with $30 novels able to be copied for half that price and the eletronic version sometimes just a few dollars cheaper, maybe 10% or 20% savings....means people are going to photocopy and digital copy so they can pay the double digit taxes on food with the little real money they have
price gouging hurts everyone
