Oculus has announced the availability of the highly-anticipated Rift VR headset.
The headset sells for $599 and will begin shipping in 20 countries on March 28th. The device, which is being hailed as one of the most innovative experiences of the decade, will also include a headset (with mic and headphone), sensor and an Xbox One controller for your gaming needs.

Same here, heard they were on pre-order earlier this week went to the site to pre-order one $600? WTF??? Sure enough did little google search for articles back in 2012-2014, Just like you mentioned $300, thought that is what i remember seeing back them...
Still find it 'gimmicky'...regardless of who makes it. People want 3-D media and VR w/o having to wear doohickies, which could still be WAY far off, esp. for 'normal' people to afford.
