Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has noted this week that consumers sharing their Netflix accounts was "a positive thing" for the company. This isn't the 1st time Netflix (and/or their CEO) has said something along these lines.

Honestly, most sharing occurs exactly as Netflix expects: within a single family's house, with individual profiles for members of the household. It would cost more in both money and customer happiness than it could ever be worth to enforce a different policy, especially when being a bit lax also ends up being direct sales PR for the company, as they note themselves.

There's also the fact that their direct competitors, while still under Netflix's shadow, are still multiplying rapidly. Any move that loses subscribers - without an incredibly good reason - is going to be anathema.
