Microsoft to unveil new interactive Live Tiles for Windows 10

I remember when Windows95 added "live" wallpaper, where you could put a web page on your desktop. What a pile of crap that was. It took so many resources that it was completely unusable.
Later, with "Gadgets" and now with "live tiles". Honestly, this feature is the one that will keep me from upgrading. I've seen far too often the lag between click and action on a Windows 10 computer, and it's all due this "live" bullshit.
Oh, Im sorry... Did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours?

The main reason I don't like the "Live Tile" interface, is that I find it ugly, ergonomically impossible to deal with, and it slows me down, as well. Of course, this doesn't even start to address my main issues with Windows 10, such as it being the largest dedicated spyware application ever written =p .
I'll pass. Looks like it's Linux (plus WINE for Windows games) for me, once 7 has gone the way of the dodo...

HEY......I didn't have much trouble with ME :)
I really wouldn't say Windows 10 is "pure junk" cause it's not. It is however, seriously debilitated at the time and needs to work out a handful of issues like device drivers, specifically audio and even more so with NVidia since their Win10 drivers suck!
Additionally, they need to remove the (what I like to call) "Ghosts in the machine" where you see slight changes that make you question whether or not u are going crazy.
AND.......Win 10 doesn't allow the user to encrypt a .VHD (bitlockered), mount that .VHD and then do "auto login" when it mounts each time UNLESS you encrypt your ENTIRE HDD (C:)
Can't remove icons like the XBox app which I don't use unless you use Powershell.
Win 10 is kinda crappy but not "pure junk" IMO.
I'm a network engineer and upgraded to 10 the day of release, tried it for 3 weeks and got fed up with the broken nonsense and went back to 7.
Then went back to 10 4 months after release and got fed up with all the rest of the crap that I encountered and back to 7 once more after a couple months of trying.
Now......windows 7 for the next 3+ years.
Sadly though, I had to turn off automatic updates completely on 7 bec. MS keeps pushing the update files for going to 10........NOT!

It's not that difficult to remove, then hide those useless updates, although you DO need to keep an eye out; M$ keeps trying to unhide and slip 'em back in every so often. Luckily, if I slip and don't catch them in the updates, my firewall catches them trying to "phone home" to M$, and I just run a Powershell script to zap 'em ^^' .

OMG YOU ARE SO RIGHT! This is the annoying part. I'm done with updates because of this. I have had them set to not download and install automatically so I would approve each one.
In the past month, I have had at least 1, if not 2 per week drop into my list of available updates EVEN THOUGH I HID THEM EACH TIME.
MS really has no right to do this.

I don't like (want) some of the stuff MS adds to their OS, but is a good platform to work and get things done. I guess that if there were an absolute pristine OS that would let me run the applications I need, I would change, or better still, develop one for my liking; but since there is none, and I cannot, I'll live with the one I have.

I completely agree, in that Windows, for all its warts, also has merits. Thing is, Windows 10 has a lot of warts:
- It's spyware, in MANY ways. This includes keylogging all input (yes, really) and sending it home to M$. Much of this is possible to disable, although not all, but it shouldn't happen in the 1st place.
- Compatibility issues. Dues to some pretty significant changes under the hood, a LOT of software simply won't work any more.
- Completely inexcusable forced automatic updates, except on corporate versions. I've had to do a LOT of fixing on my father-in-law's PC, because of this. It's not OK, especially when the drivers they force don't even freaking work. nVidia owners learned this one to their dismay.
- And so on, ad nauseam.
You can find more reasons here.
Windows 7 is the last version I will ever deal with. Once it's too venerable, I guess it's Linux and WINE.

I like the live tiles. If you leave them on the start menu, you don't have to look at them unless you want to. To me, they are just a tidier version of notifications.
And if you don't want them, it's easy enough to unpin them from the start menu.
I struggle to see the reason for the drama over a feature that is easily eliminated by unpinning the tile(s). I understand people may have issues with Windows 10 or any other OS, but hating Windows 10 because of a feature you can easily turn off is irrational.

The "drama" mostly is not about the Live Tiles. It's not, however, inappropriate at all to express dislike of them, as well.
If you like running massive spyware as an "OS", fine, you're welcome to it. If you like the UI, fine, that's your business. A LOT of people do not share that view.
